NASHVILLE, ARAt the new Pilgrim’s 12,000 ton per week feedmill, crews have currently set jacking equipment for the early February whole grain silos slip. Crews will also begin pouring intermediate floors inside of the mill tower as well as roof slabs for the soy meal silos and receiving tunnel.

Construction at Miller Milling’s new 20,000 CWT flour mill in Saginaw, Texas, continues. The mill warehouse is in use. The mill process floors have been poured, and millwright crews are in the early stages of installing equipment. Concrete crews are prepared to slip the finished flour bins and mill feed silo in late January.

From the beginning, Todd & Sargent has made a point of giving back to the community. Warren Sargent was a passionate philanthropist who enjoyed sharing his success; he instilled this belief into our company as well. Several years ago, we decided to formalize our corporate philanthropy program and committed to contribute a portion of our profits each year to the communities we live and work in, as well as to the industries we serve. Beyond just dollars, we also aim to bring awareness to charitable causes doing great things around the country.

In November 2017 we participated in No Shave November, an international cause intended to raise both funds and awareness for cancer research. I’m proud to say that we had 26 individuals participate and that T&S made contributions totaling over $3,000 to the Prevent Cancer Foundation in honor of these participants. Combined with contributions to other great charitable organizations over the year, in 2017 we are proud to have donated more than $50,000 to charities across the country such as United Way, Reggie’s Sleepout, the Ames Miracle Playground, and more.

It’s easy to get lost in the day-to-day of business and life. Seeing the great things these charities do serves as a true reminder that we’re all fighting for something bigger than ourselves.

SANDERSON FARMS// LOCATION >

MINEOLA, TX

Construction at the new Sanderson Farms 8,500 ton per week feedmill is underway in Mineola, Texas. The main slab and much of the concrete paving were poured in December. The feedmill slip is scheduled to take place at the end of January. Immediately following the mill slip, crews will slip the grain storage silos.

The crew includes Superintendent Scott Tessum; Foremen Rick Dorrel, Eric Gay, Cristian Miranda, Julio Cruz-Santiago, Toni Lee Quintanilla, and Jesus Beltran-Morales; and Leadmen Ramon Herrera-Martinez, Edgardo Herrera, Gorge Lopez, Erik Herrera, Edgar Cabazos, Matt Hett, and Jose Chevez.

SAFETY CORNERAs we move into a new year, Todd & Sargent has made some changes in the Safety Department to better aid our jobsites and employees.

On November 27, MARK WIELAND started as Safety Director. Mark brings 24 years of safety management experience with the last 15 years working in the construction industry. Everett Shaw is the Safety Manager reporting to Mark, and we have four Project Safety Coordinators currently working on site in Saginaw, Texas (Steve Somers); Alberta, Canada (Ray Joanette); Mineola, Texas (Christine Gay); and Reford, Saskatchewan (Melodie Cranney). During the last fifteen months, the Safety Department has been using a web-based software to conduct jobsite safety audits. This system allows the auditor to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the jobsite, adding photos and suggested corrective actions. This information is shared with leadership on each project. When we are on site, our goal is to work with the Superintendents, General Foremen, and Foremen to look at the jobsite overall, identify any “Immediate Danger to Life & Health” hazards, and develop means and methods to providing a safe work area for our employees. We strongly encourage participation during these audits as this grows everyone’s knowledge in hazard identification.

The goal of the Safety Department is to be a resource and an asset to each team. Areas where we can help include risk assessments, employee training, and job task pre-planning. We want to be a resource for all, from the conception of the project through the presentation of keys to the owner.
