David was a member of Greenwood Baptist Church. He owned and operated Martinsville Pool and Spa for over 30 years where he had very dedicated employ- ees. He served in the United States Navy during peace times. David enjoyed Clas- sic Cars and traveled a lot with the three he owned. He loved to hunt and was also a member of E-Z Street Cruis- es in Reidsville, NC. MELBA ELIZABETH JONES COLEMAN Melba Elizabeth Jones Coleman, age 90, for- merly of Danville passed away Thursday, April 2, 2015 at Clark Memorial Hospital in Clarksville, IN. Mrs. Cole- man was born April 29, 1924 in Danville to the late Bennie Jones and the late Lillie Pulliam Jones. She was married to the late Ed- ward Coleman. Melba was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Danville. She loved the Lord, loved mu- sic, which showed when she played the piano and sang. She is survived by four daughters, Gloria Elizabeth Trent of Gates, NC, Marie Collins and husband Eddie of Keeling, VA, Sherry Kast and husband Christian of Palmyra, IN and Vicki Trent of Danville; a son Doug- las Trent of Louisville, KY; seventeen grandchildren, twelve great grandchil- dren and three great-great grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. till 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 6, 2015 at Norris Funeral Services, Inc., West End Chapel, 511 Church Ave. the U.S. Air Force, serving 9 years during the Korean Conict. As a civil servant, he graduated from the U.S. Border Patrol Academy, as an expert marksman, serv- ing as a uniformed patrol of- cer on the Texas and Cali- fornia Mexican border. He attended numerous train- ing classes at the Federal Law Enforcement Center, Glenco, GA, the University of Maryland and Catons- ville Community College in Maryland. He served as Of- cer-in-Charge of U.S. Im- migration in Bermuda for 7 years retiring in 1990 from the Department of Justice and Naturalization Service, in Baltimore, MD as a Crim- inal Investigator. One of Mr. Daughtridge’s proudest achievements was becoming an Eagle Scout at a very young age. His other hobbies included ying, diving, amateur photogra- phy, clock collecting, and shing. He will be lovingly remembered as a wonderful people person with a great sense of humor. A funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at 2:00 p.m at Norris Funeral Services, Mt. He was born March 17, 1935 in Rocky Mount, NC, the son of the late Irene B. Daughtridge and the late John E. Daughtridge of Rocky Mount, NC. He was preceded in death by three sisters; Madge T. Martin and Irene E. Winstead of Rocky Mount, NC, and Ma- vis B. Bennett of Dobson, NC; two brothers, Richard L. Daughtridge of Rocky Mount, NC, and CDR Ger- ald R. Daughtridge, USN (Ret.) of Raleigh, NC. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Nancy M. REVEREND EDWIN GAYLE BURCH Reverend Edwin Gayle Burch, 76, of Staunton, VA passed a w a y Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at Augusta Health, Fishersville, VA. Mr. Burch was born on June 13, 1938 in Martins- ville, VA to the late Edwin Fuller Burch and Vinney Cox Burch. He was preced- ed in death by his rst wife Virginia Louise Via Burch. Reverend Burch gradu- ated from Martinsville High School in 1956 and Virginia Tech in 1961 where he was in the Corp of Cadets. He worked for DuPont, Boe- ing Aerospace and Sperry Rand Computers until 1977, when he entered seminary at Emory University in At- lanta. He received his Mas- ters in Divinity in 1980. He served various United Methodist churches in the Virginia Conference of the United Methodist Church and retired in 2001; howev- er, he then served Chatham Heights UMC, Martinsville, VA and re-retired in 2010. Reverend Burch enjoyed traveling (especially via cruise ships), gardening, and spending time with his family. He had a love for sci- movies and Hokie football and would often pair watch- ing either with his favorite snack of either popcorn or MARGARET ANN PAYNE RUNION Margaret Ann Payne Run- ion, 83, passed on April 4, 2015 sur- rounded by her family. Marga- ret Ann was born January 28, 1932 in Chattanooga, TN, the daughter of the late Margaret “Hughey” Bray and William Woodward. She received a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Edu- cation from University of Tennessee at Chattanoo- ga. Mrs. Payne Runion was a Physical Education teacher with the Frederick County School system from 1963 until her retirement in 1988. She was a spon- sor of the James Wood High School Class of 1965, as well as the coach for the JV Cheerleading Team. She remarried Richard Runion on April 3, 2009 in Winchester, VA. Although she fought Alzheimer’s for a number of years, her loving husband was able to take wonderful care of her in their home in Winchester. She also attended the Adult Day Care assisted by their caring sta, whom she loved dearly. Surviving with her husband are four children she raised, Wanda Payne Jacquis of CA, Stephen H. Payne (Elaine) of Martinsburg, WV, Phyl- lis Payne Cooke (Matthew) of Gainesville, VA, and Marissa Jacquis Sheeld (Shane) of Winchester, VA. Also surviving are step-sons Richard L. Runion, II of NV, Kevin P. Runion of Harri- sonburg, VA, Phillip S. Run- ion (Jodi) of Martinsburg, WV, Damon A. Runion of TX, and John V. Runion of Reston, VA; brother, Ralph Woodward of Soddy Daisy, TN; thirteen grandchildren; and ten great grandchil- dren. 28, 1932 in Chattanooga, TN, the daughter of the late Margaret “Hughey” Bray and William Woodward. She received a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Edu-cation from University of Tennessee at Chattanoo-ga. Mrs. Payne Runion was a Physical Education teacher with the Frederick County School system from 1963 until her retirement in 1988. She was a spon-sor of the James Wood High School Class of 1965, as well as the coach for the JV Cheerleading Team. She remarried Richard Runion on April 3, 2009 in Winchester, VA. Although she fought Alzheimer’s for a number of years, her loving husband was able to take wonderful care of her in their home in Winchester. She also attended the Adult Day Care assisted by their caring staff , whom she loved dearly. Surviving with her husband are four children she raised, Wanda Payne Jacquis of CA, Stephen H. Payne (Elaine) of Martinsburg, WV, Phyl-lis Payne Cooke (Matthew) of Gainesville, VA, and Marissa Jacquis Sheffi eld (Shane) of Winchester, VA. Also surviving are step-sons Richard L. Runion, II of NV, Kevin P. Runion of Harri-sonburg, VA, Phillip S. Run-ion (Jodi) of Martinsburg, WV, Damon A. Runion of TX, and John V. Runion of Reston, VA; brother, Ralph Woodward of Soddy Daisy, TN; thirteen grandchildren; and ten great grandchil-dren. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel, 1600 Amherst Street, Win-chester, VA 22601. Pete was a member of the Danville Evening Lions Club. He enjoyed working on the planning committees of Green Street Reunions and the GWHS Class of 1950 reunions. He was born on March 16, 1945, in Hayfi eld, MN, to the late Cliff ord T. Distad and Evelyn Bauman Distad.Mr. Distad worked at Ow-ens-Illinois and as a con-sultant for Emhart Glass. He was an active member of Ascension Lutheran Church where he served as Praise and Worship leader and a council member. He was a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity. Most of his life was spent in the Danville area. Mr. Distad had been in declining health for the past 6 months. Also, he was a devoted father, grandfa-ther, and husband to his high school sweetheart for 52 years. He is survived by his wife, Karen K. Distad of the resi-dence, son: Joe Distad and his wife Robin; daughter: Dawn Wells and her hus-band Tommy; grandchil-dren: David Distad, Morgan Distad, Thomas Wells, and Hunter Wells; and sisters: Janice Moore, Mary Trom, and Judith Perala.
