Prelude


Preamble

• Biotechnology is the sunrise industry for a knowledge based

economy. To capitalize on R&D growth of this field, research,

Academia & industry, are joining hands to set up Technology parks,

Incubators etc. Government both at Central and State levels and the

private sector have developed few biotechnology parks in the

country. These Parks have been successfully addressing the

infrastructure requirements of the rapidly growing Indian biotech

industry and have led to the creation of biotech clusters across the

country.

• In line with the efforts and initiatives being driven by the Central

Government and several State Governments, The Government of

Gujarat (GoG) through its nodal agency Gujarat State Biotechnology

Mission (GSBTM) is setting up a Biotechnology Park at the GIDC

Savli Industrial Estate at Vadodara.

• The proposed Park would be developed as a

public-private venture in an area of 700 acres in

three phases. The proposed Park would provide

R&D infrastructure in the form of modern

modular wet laboratories and also develop

independent plots for manufacturing facilities

of international standards with common

facilities such as animal house, amenity centre,

equipped state-of-the-art business facilities,

bio-informatics etc.


The proposed Park would endeavor:

• To address the biotech industry’s need for

specialized infrastructure and thereby encourage

new biotech enterprises,

• Drive life sciences research, accelerate

commercialization of new technologies,

• Enable biotech organizations to forge alliances

and

• Enhance competitiveness of biotech companies

located in the State.


Philosophy

• The proposed biotech park at Savli, Vadodara has been

conceptualised as a commercially and financially feasible

venture which, aims to facilitate the development of

biotechnology enterprises in State, thereby creating new

jobs, investment opportunities, and consumer goods,

for the benefit of society at large.

• The park would be a geographic concentration/ cluster

of life sciences companies, research institutions, sci-tech

academia and other amenities of scientific & general

purpose.
