Penny Sweets Weekly Treats Reading - Fiction books, novels, short stories - magazines, comics, newspapers - websites, kindles - Non-fiction, information, recipe books Wonderful Writing Write a review of a book you have read. Research your favourite author and write a biography about him/her. Write a diary entry in role as a character from a story you have read. Write a story about something which has inspired you! Backwards Thinking Learn to recite one of your times table or the alphabet backwards. How quickly can you do it? Can you improve your time with practise? Practise your times tables - Write, cover, check - Forwards, backwards, mixed up - Ask someone to test you - Roll a dice and multiply the numbers Learn a Poem Find a favourite poem and learn it. You can recite your poem to any of the adults at school, or even perform it to the whole class. It’s Bug’s Life Describe the school field from the point of view of an ant (or any other suitable insect). How do things look from their perspective? What might a day in their life be like? Learn spellings - Look, say, cover, write, check - Ask someone to test you - Is there a spelling rule that helps? - Identify the tricky part & a way to remember it Don’t forget to make sure you know what all the words mean! Poster Perfect Design a poster for any of these topics: - to explain place value in large numbers. - to help younger children when they are choosing a book to read. - to teach others about the Medieval Times/Tudor Times/ Industrial Revolution. - all about your favourite animal. Maths Games - See the links on the school website - Use your login for www.mathletics.co.uk - Borrow maths games from school Quizzy Rascals Write a quiz including at least 10 questions about things we have learnt this week. If you put the answers on a separate page, then I can copy it for others in the class to try out! Make Time to Talk Maybe there’s something you could teach your family... tell them about our class novel ‘War Horse’ or teach them about our class topic! Become the Teacher! Can you create a starter activity for a Maths lesson? It could be a game or a list of quick- fire questions. Make it as exciting & engaging as possible – the best will be used in class! These penny sweets are healthy enough that you should be eating some every day! Each activity on each day costs another penny, so (for example) if you read every night you’ve already spent 7p! Got a great idea that is not on the menu? You can always design your own ‘special dish’. The cost of specials will be decided by Miss Homer and the best ideas will be added to the specials board for others to try. Remember: Homework will be marked for: effort, presentation & creativity. Pick ‘n’ Mix Homework How it Works Each week simply pick one weekly treat and as many penny sweets as you can manage. Aim for 30p+ Homework books to be handed in every Tuesday, with evidence of the treats you have chosen over the past week. (Penny sweets may also be recorded in Home-School diaries & spelling books)
