Warming is acalamity on aglobal scale

Is it really getting hot in here or are we be-ing manipulated into hallucinating aboutsoaring temperatures and thawing icecapstaking us ever closer to an irreversibleglobal catastrophe? Dr TV Ramachandrafrom centre for ecological sciences at the In-dian Institute of Sciences presents hisviews: "Global warming is far from a myth.It is certainly happening."
Not discouraged by the recent IPCC slip-up, he says, "There might be ulterior mo-tives for those working on it and sometimesthe data may be wrong and the analysis notaccurate. But that doesn't nullify the reali-ty of climate change that we face. Despitethe goof-up by Dr RK Pachuri, there is stillhistorical data to prove that we are facinga disaster that requires immediate atten-tion."
The repercussions of global warming oneveryday lives of people will be costly, headds. "We will pay a heavy price, and thatis going to happen with water soon. Com-panies will be bottling water and selling itback to us to make more money."
Dr Ramachandra doesn't stop at just ac-knowledging the authenticity of globalwarming, he hands out a few pointers thatpeople need to put into practice encourag-ing action rather than fear.
"We need to preserve eco-systems and ournatural resources and that is crucial. Dataclearly shows that land cover change is theroot cause of global warming. The solutionis of course that we need to green up. Weneed to identify and increase our green cov-er with natural species of vegetation. Thiswill rejuvenate the water level and also pre-serve biodiversity."
He wraps up on an optimistic note: "Withmore than one billion of us in the country, imagine how much is possible."

Climate change is a genuine threat. It isn’t a newproblem, but it’s only now that the developed nationshave woken up to it1All news is exaggerated. With climate change we canfeel its impact. So it certainly isn’t an ‘imaginary’problem2Climate change is not a farce at all. I don’t think peo-ple are afraid of it, in fact there needs to be moreawareness about it3Scientists definitely need to give reliable informationwhen they speak on the topic. The only way we cantackle global warming is by altering our habits4Climate change is certainly not a figment; it is a veryreal threat. There might be hype, but sometimes ittakes that kind exposure for people to take notice5Climate change is a reality and we are all aware of it.Even if it the details are not exactly the same, we allknow that it is definitely happeningt6
