Dr TV Ramachandra from centre for ecological sciences at the In- dian Institute of Sciences presents his views: "Global warming is far from a myth. It is certainly happening." Not discouraged by the recent IPCC slip- up, he says, "There might be ulterior mo- tives for those working on it and sometimes the data may be wrong and the analysis not accurate. Dr Ramachandra doesn't stop at just ac- knowledging the authenticity of global warming, he hands out a few pointers that people need to put into practice encourag- ing action rather than fear. "We need to preserve eco-systems and our natural resources and that is crucial. Data clearly shows that land cover change is the root cause of global warming. The solution is of course that we need to green up. We need to identify and increase our green cov- er with natural species of vegetation. This will rejuvenate the water level and also pre- serve biodiversity." He wraps up on an optimistic note: "With more than one billion of us in the country, imagine how much is possible."
