Architect and interior designer Chris Briffa outlines his inspiration for the 22 individual interiors of the Piazza Apartments.

“Each of the 22 apartments on Pjazza Tigné has been individually designed with the end user as the main source of inspiration. A set of projected

realities was drawn up in order to establish each apartment’s specific requirements. We studied the needs of the modern urban dweller ranging from the single to the contemporary couple to the home-worker. While each apartment is distinctly designed, the attention to detail and the sophisticated combination of divergent materials is constant throughout, depicting varying interpretations of luxury.”

Instead of working

around the idea of a

standard 3-bedroomed

home, it is function that

dictates use in these

spaces. Where only

one bedroom suffices,

the other rooms

become personalised

areas for a new strain

of live-in realities.

The piazza apartments also offer an exciting new

niche product: a home workspace which is not only

accessible and centrally located but which also boasts a

sought after address. These living spaces may not only

be the location of one’s workday but can also become a

showcase for that same work too. There is something in

An imposing double-height gallery space will attract

marble-clad living room offers serenity and sanctuary.

Unique staircases, mostly in wood or steel, epitomise

the character of the individual apartments. Marble is

used extensively, alongside wood, concrete, travertine,

plaster, wallpaper and tile. The selected palette is

restrained and muted yet at the same time luxurious

and contemporary. The degree of quality is evident in

the designer fittings chosen to perfectly complement

the high-end sanitary ware and materials on offer.

An environmentally-sound and energy-efficient centralised climate control system (HVAC) supplies heating and cooling to the piazza apartments. At the core of the HVAC design lies the optimisation of energy use, allowing for simultaneous heating and cooling in each apartment. The piazza apartments enjoy the security of gated entrances using SIS security systems. Swipe card access to all private areas, fire detection systems and CCTV cameras in underground public areas provide maximum peace of mind. Solutions and Infrastructure Services (SIS) Ltd., a joint venture between MIDI p.l.c. and Siemens SpA, provides innovative and effective telephony, internet and building technology solutions and services to Tigné Point - as well as centralised HVAC. The option for high-speed IT connectivity and innovative telephony services using Siemens technology, along with 24/7 customer care, ensure that residents enjoy the most up -to-date communication technology available.

The brief for the Tigné Point architects, aoM Partnership, was to

design a new ’contemporary village’ with a central piazza which

would become the heart of the development and indeed, the whole

peninsula. Pjazza Tigné can claim to be the largest square in the

fashionable town of Sliema, resurrecting a very Maltese and indeed

European tradition in a vibrant seaside setting. That Pjazza Tigné is

uniquely and totally car-free is of prime importance to everyone who

will enjoy time there. Every element has been carefully considered.

This central core with its radial walkways is one of the factors that

allows light to permeate through to every residence. Much as in

Malta’s capital city Valletta, this interplay also allows cooling breezes to

make their way from the sea, extending views to the horizon beyond.
