Pi Day (March 14 or 3/14) is a day to celebrate our favorite number,
3.14159.... The marvelous mysteries of this number could be probed forever,but we will limit ourselves to some carols you can sing on our numbers own
special day, perhaps even at Pi o'clock that afternoon.

Station 3: Sing a Pi songAt this station you will find several songs.with familiar
tunes.The difference is the very important WORDS!
Sing a solo or sing it as a group to get credit here! Since the last
two are more fun but much longer, sing your favorite verse and
one chorus for the completion of this task.
Dont forget: To get credit at this station, sing your song for
your teacher and have them sign off in the box in your booklet!

To find a circles area will often make you queasy,
Its not just simply length by width or anything that easy.
But then one day youll find a number that will help your brain,
It might be transcendental but its sure to save you pain!

That hes froze now, and the whole crowd knows he vowedTo get it perfect, but the numbers wont come out

Snap back to reality, oh, its a malady

He cant stand, but he wont give up
That easy, noHe wont have it, he knows all his fans really hope
He can shatter the glob

When I throw down the gauntlet, with a

Get my Pi-recitin groove on, on this here stageI was playin in the beginnin, the mood all changed
I been broken up from soakin up this whole page
But I kept churnin and kept learnin to decipher
The rhythm of the number that makes me so hyper
All the pain and strife amplified by theFact that I cant get back to my life, Im
Whacked and I dont exactly know why, Im
Acting like I am attracted to Pi! SoBack to a kid jam-packed with random numbers
I think this whole process is makin me dumber
It still shakes me up, man, it makes me sentimentalThat a number so essential is also transcendental
Caught up between bein in fashion and bein irrationalIts passion flashin through my brain
Whenever I explain it
I just think pi is nice, Would you... like a slice?
Ive gotten to the point, its like a vice, Im notAfraid of gettin' caught, but still it hurts a lotSuccess is my only mathematic option, failures not
Pi, I love you, but these people got to know
A million tiny circles haunt my every thoughtSo here I go with my shot
Brain, fail me not,
This may be the only opportunity that I got!

American Pi(to the tune of Don McLeans American Pie)
INTRO:
A long, long time ago I can still remember
How that mathematics made me smile.
And I knew if I had my chance, I would ace geometry class
And make my parents happy for a while.
But some math books made me shiver--
Facts on tablets, all delivered:
Nothing past the rational,
And nothing transcendental.
I cant remember if I cried,
Reading 3 point 1 4 1 5 9..
But something touched me deep inside
The day I learned of piso:
Find, find the value of pi,Starts 3 point 1 4 1 5 9.
Good ol boys gave it a try,
But the decimal never dies, the decimal never dies.........
In the Bible we do see the circle ratio appears as three,
Or a little more....
That genius Archimedes found with polygons, an upper boundOf 22 sevenths for sure!
The Chinese got it really keen: three-five-five over one thirteen!
More joined the action with arctan series and continued
fractions.
In the 1700s, my oh my, the English coined the symbol ,
Then Lambert showed it was a lie to look for rational pi.
He started singing ..........Find, find the value of pi
Twice 11 over 7 is a mighty fine try
A good ol fraction you might hope to supply,
But the decimal never dies, the decimal never dies.

Late 1800s, Lindemann shared why a circle cant be squared
But some folks tried anyway--
Like the Indiana doctor who said pi was 4 or 3.2
And thought his proof should be a law someday.
The Indiana congressmenDiscussed his paper there and then
A bill got through the House by a vote unanimous!
But in the end the statesmen sighed, Its not for us to decide,
So the bill was left to die like the quest for rational pi.
They started singing ........

Buffons needle popped the bubble of that ol doctors tryA good ol fraction could not be supplied
Cause the decimal never dies, the decimal never dies.
That doctors pi in the sky dreams may not look so extreme
Cause we long believed
Deductive systems could be complete and there was one true
geometry.But now theres more we see
In these computer times, we test the best machines to find
pi to a trillion places that so far lack patterns traces.
Its great when we can truly see math as human history--
That adds curiosity...... easy as pi!
