Physical Therapist Assistants: Crucial Conversations World Confederation for Physical Therapy Congress Cape Town, South Africa This summer I accepted an invitation to participate in meetings related to the PTA profession at a satellite event to the WCPT Congress in Cape Town. This was part of the SUDA Project (http://www.wcpt.org/suda), and its purpose was to discuss key issues related to the models of PTA development, practice, education and regulation globally. I was thrilled to have a voice to advocate for physiotherapist assistants internationally! I felt ready to be a strong spokesperson since I had been involved with the Canadian Physiotherapy Association as a PTA Board Director for over two years and was formerly the National Physiotherapist Assistant Assembly president for seven years. Relevant to appreciating the global PTA evolution, I also previously volunteered as a PTA in each India (1992) & Bangladesh (2002). At the Congress there was an interactive session that garnered diverse discussions regarding the PTA role in healthcare: “WCPT-02 What should the global physical therapy workforce look like?” This seminar looked at potential solutions to contemporary workforce issues in relation to PTs and PTAs working together. More details on this session and other WCPT events can be found by reading the abstracts on the “Congress Iplanner” link located at: http://www.wcpt.org/wcpt2017/final-programme I volunteered during Congress to save on registration fees & to network! The next WCPT is in Geneva in 2019…are you going?! Sandra Lamb, Physiotherapist Assistant, Vancouver Sandra Lamb
