Student Fellows will also spearhead more professional tasks, such as creating communication policies and programming content. Student Fellows will help Taylor staff and faculty create and run programs, increase campus and community awareness of Taylor, expand services and programs, asses outcomes and impacts, build strong partnerships, and launch other efforts consistent with the Taylor vision, mission, resources, and strategy. (August 1-20 will include online training) • Fellows work an average of 15 hours each week with 12 scheduled front desk office hours and 3 flexible, out of

office hours o In the spring semester, CI Fellows will work 7 desk hours, 5 hours on Saturdays, and 3 flexible hours in

the spring semester o Some weeks will be busier and some weeks will be lighter, depending on Taylor’s programming

schedule • Fellows work evening and weekend hours, as required, to implement effective programming and outreach • Fellows are required to attend weekly team staff meetings and individual supervisory meetings • Fellows have the option to attend Taylor-wide meetings, staff retreats, and professional development sessions

o Be aware of Taylor programs, activities, and events to screen office walk-ins, phone calls, and other inquiries about Taylor programming and the SISE minor

o Collaborate with Taylor staff to offer outreach, informational sessions, guest classroom presentations, and open houses/admission events throughout the year for all Taylor programs

Job Description: Design Thinking Student Fellows (2)

Two Design Thinking (DT) Student Fellows will work with students, staff, and faculty to design, support, facilitate, and execute educational programming in design thinking for social impact. Responsibilities include developing a strong understanding and awareness of DT, running basic skill workshops relevant to DT, managing partnerships with campus and community partners, and helping to integrate the human-centered design activities with other Taylor programming. The DT fellows will bring a user-centered perspective to improving all Taylor events and programs. Specific duties may involve: • Planning and facilitating workshops • Training other students in design thinking • Presenting on DT to student clubs and organizations • Facilitating follow-up learning with participants in crash courses and bootcamps, as needed • Supporting community partners interested in DT workshops and applications • Writing blog posts or short articles related to design thinking theory, methods, and practice The Design Thinking Student Fellows will also support daily operations of Taylor, such as staffing the front desk/reception, welcoming or hosting guests, and supporting other Taylor events, as appropriate. Function: Assist in the execution and strategic development of Taylor’s education and outreach in design thinking for social impact • Cultivate skills in design thinking (human centered-design and other methodologies) for outreach, education,

and application appropriate to Taylor work, for example a. Appropriate methods for teaching diverse groups b. Improving campus-community partnerships for DT instruction and social design c. Assessment of DT knowledge and practice in our constituents

• Help organize, run, and facilitate Taylor public 2-3 design thinking “crash courses” per semester • Work with C&M Fellows to conduct outreach for DT programming, including email and social media campaigns

to promote design thinking workshops, learning opportunities, events, etc. (academic, co-curricular, external) • Assist in specialized DT workshops for campus and community partners • Support the integration of design thinking into the Changemaker Institute (training), Speaker events, student

funding applications, and other Taylor sponsored programs as relevant • Assist with logistics for Crash courses, Fast 48 Bootcamps, and other DT programming • Offer introductory workshops for student organizations in basic design thinking methods, as resources and

time allow

Additional potential duties, depending on the applicants’ skills, may include: • Research and share knowledge of other design thinking programming on other campuses; incorporate findings

into Taylor Center’s strategic planning process and specific activities • Explore new channels for the Tulane community (students, faculty, staff, partners) to practice skills via

advanced workshops and application of design thinking methods to real projects • Help develop and update a database of design thinking education, outreach, partnerships, applications,

challenges, class projects, etc. as a resource for Taylor • Other new programs as needed

Job Description: Changemaker Institute Student Fellows (3)

Three Changemaker Institute Student Fellows will work together and with staff to develop, organize, promote, and execute Taylor’s social venture accelerator, the Changemaker Institute. In the Fall semester Fellows will revise curriculum, recruit participants, and secure mentors and speakers. In the Spring semester, Fellows will run CI and serve as “guides” for individual ventures throughout the Institute, reviewing and offering feedback on weekly assignments, and facilitating a strong cohort bond among participants. CI Student Fellows will collaborate with various stakeholders including staff, faculty, alumni, community organizations, small businesses, and expert speakers in the greater New Orleans community. Student Fellows are expected to be present to facilitate weekend workshops January to April (Saturdays 9 AM to 3 PM) as a part of their 15 hour/week employment. PERFORMANCE STANDARDS See Taylor Student Fellows-wide Performance Standards. Job duties will be refined and might evolve based on the interests and abilities of the Student Fellow and the needs of Taylor programs. • Help CI participants address real social and environmental problems using tools of changemakers (social

entrepreneurs or intrapreneurs) • Recruit a culturally diverse and passionate cohort of CI participants of about 12 teams or 25 individuals • At least 50% of the ventures apply for University funding during or immediately following CI • Develop metrics for a successful CI experience, such as % retention throughout the program, mentor

satisfaction, and % of CI ventures launched and sustained Function: Recruit CI participants • Recruit diverse participants and partners, including CI students, speakers, and mentors; ensure diverse

perspectives and approaches are considered in the workshops • Offer 2-4 well-structured, interactive information sessions where students network with alumni and other

students interested in applying to CI, attended by at least 50 prospective CI participants • Maintain or oversee C&M Student Fellows’ maintenance of the Fans of CI Facebook page • Recruit participants via diverse avenues including classroom visits, club visits, graduate student list-serves,

conferences/seminars, and outreach to faculty and administrators • Connect students interested in CI with each other in advance of applying to CI • Recruit at least 35 high-quality applicants (expected to represent 10-15 ventures) for participation in CI; hold

half-hour interviews with all finalist ventures Function: Develop the CI program • Review all feedback and best practices research to improve CI, including: consulting Qualtrics survey data and

speaking with CI and SISE alumni, past CI Student Fellows, CI Advisory Board members, and relevant Tulane (and other) staff and faculty

• Match CI participants with mentors for CI by the end of the Fall semester • Finalize curriculum, pre-work, and weekly deliverables, in partnership with content experts, by the end of the

Fall semester • Finalize all speakers by January 1

o CI Student Fellows coordinate with staff in preparing speakers two weeks before each workshop • Contribute recommendations to the Standard Operating Procedures Document to codify new best practices

and leave recommendations for next year’s CI team

Function: Implement CI • Coordinate Saturday workshops: creating internal and external agendas, briefing speakers before guest

presenting in CI sessions, checking in with participants, ordering food, and handling program logistics • Guide a sub-group of ventures by tracking progress through the curriculum, providing feedback on

deliverables, troubleshooting as needs arise, and helping ventures develop a blueprint for execution after completing CI

• Hold regular office hours to meet with CI participants and their mentors • Monitor students’ participation and ensure that the Commitment Compact is upheld • Gather metrics on effectiveness of weekly workshops through a regular and deliberate process • Communicate important events and opportunities to CI participants (e.g. design thinking workshops, speakers,

community workshops, etc.) • Guide CI participants through Taylor funding award processes • Develop and maintain relationships with past mentors, speakers, and advisory board members, including

Job Description: Communication & Marketing Student Fellows (3)

Three C&M Student Fellows will work together and with staff to communicate, promote, and market Taylor programs, events, trainings, and activities. C&M Fellows are the authors and curators of various marketing platforms including, but not limited to, the Taylor newsletter, TaylorHub blog, Taylor website, event calendars, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. This team is also in charge of some photography, videography, and graphic design work for Taylor.

Each C&M Student Fellow will take the lead on one or more communication platforms (ie. Newsletter, blog, social media, Facebook, etc.). The assignment of these platforms is based on the expressed skills, interests, and strengths of the applicants and the team’s needs. C&M Student Fellows will also advise leaders of Taylor-advised student organizations, Changemaker Institute participants, and related faculty and staff on communication and branding best practices.

By the second semester student fellows will take on the responsibility of designing, planning, and implementing communication materials, outreach, and marketing campaigns for Taylor programs such as Changemaker Institute, Fast 48 Bootcamp, student funding opportunities, and TEDxTU. Student fellows will receive strategic guidance from their staff supervisor.

Duties will evolve over the year, with increasing responsibility for developing content and communications and promoting broad awareness about Taylor programs, including the SISE academic minor and Taylor co-curricular offerings. Function: Manage Outreach + Communication of Taylor Activities to Diverse Audiences • Ensure broad awareness of Taylor programs, including the SISE academic minor and Taylor programming • Cross promote Taylor programming and maintain and build a brand with a consistent voice • Develop segmented offerings for various media audiences (i.e. externally-facing reports and semi-annual

newsletters versus more regular communications intended for on-campus audiences) • Forge partnerships in promoting programming across campus through coordinated campaigns with other

centers, departments, etc. • Assess weekly return on investment of various marketing techniques and pivot strategies as necessary • Follow social innovation news and current events and integrate timely coverage into Taylor publications and

communications • Continuously build audiences through social media following and subscriptions to newsletters

o Maintain a database of contacts and relevant newsletters o Track social media through dashboard indicators and share with supervisor and Taylor staff

• Engage student organizations (particularly those advised by Taylor) as allies in building audience support and buzz around events

• Offer robust dialogue about what SISE means on various platforms; build an understanding of social innovation and design thinking on campus, in New Orleans, and beyond

• Ensure programming and academics are featured in campus publications outside of Taylor platforms o Communicate with Hullabaloo, New Wave, and other campus publications

Function: Develop and Share Marketing Strategies with the Team • Lead weekly meetings briefly summarizing performance of the past week and charting the future course,

leading group brainstorming for campaigns in advance • Delegate and complete tasks daily using project management tools • Develop and hone tools for communication analysis, including analyzing metrics, building new reports and

recommending best practices • Build and edit a photo bank • Present a competitive analysis on a period basis (i.e. evaluate other inspirational newsletters, determine where

ours fall within campus competition, outside SISE-related field, what we are doing well, what requires improvement)

• Plan and execute dynamic multimedia content including, but not limited to, video campaigns, memes, or podcasts

• Design, create, and post visually appealing marketing materials, digitally and in print

Function: Maintain the TaylorHub Blog • Publish original, creative, visually rich content to the TaylorHub Blog 3x/week • Create editorial schedule with at least one post per week related to the wider field of social innovation beyond

campus • Build dialogue with comments on other blogs, linking to TaylorHub Bog • Ensure TaylorHub blog is linked to Taylor newsletters, Facebook posts, etc. • Manage guest bloggers and publish guest posts several times per semester Function: Maintain Social Media Accounts • Publish diverse content multiple times a day on the Taylor Facebook page with hashtags chosen for their
