Tilt Focus Technique (Model Scale)

1. Open your picture in Photoshop.

2. In the tool pallet, select the elliptical marquee tool.

3. If you have a large file size, 2M or more, set your Feather setting to 200 pixels. If you have a

smaller file size, set the Feather smaller. You might have to experiment to get the look you

want.

4. Move the marquee tool over the focal point of your

picture.

5. Navigate to Select/Inverse. This will select everything but your focal point.

6. Navigate to Filter/Blur/Smart Blur.

7. Set the Radius to around 12 to 15, and the Threshold to bout 35. Set the Quality to High and the

Mode to Normal. Click OK. You may have to experiment to get the look you want.

8. Now you can try sharpening the edges, if you want. Try it and see what you think. Go to

Filter/Sharpen/Sharpen Edges.

9. Go to Enhance/Adjust Lighting/Shadows and Highlights.

10. Darken the Shadows, Darken the Highlights , and increase the Midtone Contrast.

11. Now create a new layer.

12. While you still have the outside of your picture selected, fill the new layer with white.

13. Finally, decrease the Opacity of your layer until you like it. It may end up being only about 10%

or so. Turn off the layer to see if you really want it.
