 United  Photo  Industries  present  the  very  first  foto/pod  village  in  the  Summer  of  2012  located  in  Brooklyn  Bridge  Park  and  the  neighborhood  of  DUMBO,  Brooklyn.    Taking  over  a  stretch  of  land  in  Brooklyn  Bridge  Park,  UPI  will  host  between  30-­‐40  containers  filled  with  outstanding  photographic  work  from  around  the  Globe.  

The  foto/pod  village  will  include  tents  with  major  exhibitors,  our  photographic  partners  and  vendors.  A  giant  camera  obscura  housed  in  a  20ft  container  (one  of  the  big  hits  of  the  DUMBO  Arts  Festival  2011)  will  return  in  numerous  locations  throughout  the  Park  and  DUMBO.    

In  addition  to  the  foto/pods,  the  village  will  feature  nightly  outdoor  screenings,  photography  workshops  and  panel  discussion  with  some  of  the  leading  photography  minds  working  today.  A  Sponsored  beer  &  food  garden  will  provide  the  perfect  summer  spot  for  mingling  amongst  the  best  views  in  NYC.  Local  Indie  bands  and  DJ’s  will  also  be  added  to  the  mix,  as  well  as  satellite  exhibitions  and  workshops  and  events  throughout  the  neighborhood  of  DUMBO.      

Making  the  Brooklyn  Waterfront  the  IT  place  to  be  this  coming  June.

foto/pod village: BKLYN BRIDGE PARK ELEMENTS  CONTAINERS / EXHIBITS 30-­‐40  containers  (20ft/40ft)  will  house  photographic  exhibits  from  all  over  the  world.  UPI  will  Partner  with  global  organizations  and  local  exhibitors  as  well  as  conducting  an  open  call  for  submissions,  opening  the  field  to  the  greater  public.  UPI  will  also  give  the  opportunity  for  local  artists  to  team  up  and  produce  their  own  “Co-­‐Op  Pod”. TENTS Roughly  20-­‐30  tents  and  tables  will  house  Photographic  companies  (such  as  adorama,  Leica,  B&H,  Ricoh)  as  well  as  local  art  schools  (ICP,  SVA,  Parsons)  and  festival  &  neighborhood  information  booths  (UPI,  DUMBO  BID,  DUMBO  Arts  Festival,  Brooklyn  Arts  Council)  and  also  foundation  booths  (Center  of  Photography  Woodstock,  Camera  Club  NY,  Aperture) CAMERA OBSCURA The  popular  Camera  Obscura  is  back!  We’ve  expanded  to  3-­‐4  locations  throughout  BBP  &  DUMBO. STAGE / MUSIC Stage  centered  in  the  middle  of  the  village  will  be  utilized  for  daily  music  performances  &  talks PROJECTIONS with live music / dj Nightly  outdoor  projections  showcasing  the  best  of  the  best  of  documentary  photography.   PANEL DISCUSSIONS Daily  discussions  and  talks  by  the  leading  photographers  and  experts  in  the  Photo  field FOTO FAMILY WORKSHOPS Workshops  conducted  by  photographers  for  families  (pinhole  camera,  cyan  o  types  –  light  grams) BEER & FOOD GARDEN Central  to  the  Village  will  be  a  communal  beer  &  food  garden  serving  chilled  brews  and  artesian  snacks   FOTO CANINE VILLAGE A  mini  dog  run  where  the  pooches  are  the  stars  –  2  photographers  will  be  snapping  up  pics  of  your  canine  pal  with  polarod  cameras  and  will  post  the  pics  on  the  “Paws  Wall  of  Fame”     FOTO FENCE UPI  will  curate  a  photography  fence  running  throughout  BBP  with  submissions  from  the  general  public  that  include  amateur  and  professional.

 TOBACCO WAREHOUSE TW  will  be  the  DUMBO  Hub  with  curated  exhibitions  and  panel  discussions    THE STREETS OF DUMBO / MAIN ST. / WATER ST. / JAY ST. The  Goal  is  to  place  several  Containers  throughout  the  streets  of  DUMBO  with  an  exhibition,  festival  &  neighborhood  Information  booth  AND  2  Camera  Obscuras    111 FRONT ST. GALLERIES Partnering  with  All  Galleries  and  encouraging  them  to  showcase  Photography  Exhibitions  AS  WELL  AS  having  a  GALLERIES  container  in  the  foto/pod  village  -­‐to  advertise  the  Gallery  Walk  and  the  Galleries  in  general  and  their  artists.  This  is  an  amazing  opportunity  for  these  galleries,  as  well  as  DUMBO  BID  and  the  general  neighborhood.    SMACK MELLON Work  with  SM  in  curating  a  photography  show  and  provide  tent  placement  in  village  (or  container  if  they  wish  –  to  be  negotiated)    GALAPAGOS Work  with  Galapagos  curating  a  photography  show  and  provide  tent  placement  in  village  (or  container  if  they  wish  –  to  be  negotiated)    GLEASONS GYM Work  with  GG  curating  a  photography  show  and  provide  tent  placement  in  village  (or  container  if  they  wish  –  to  be  negotiated)    LOCAL VENDORS in DUMBO Partner  with  Cafes,  stores  etc.  to  extend  discounts  to  the  public  and  also  possibly  show  photography  (Sam  and  Dave  have  been  successful  in  working  with  Almondine,  Bo  Concept,  Superfine  to  name  a  few  in  curating  photography  on  their  walls)

UNITED PHOTO INDUSTRIES A  Brooklyn-­‐born,  art-­‐presenting  cooperative  dedicated  to  identifying,  harnessing,  and  occasionally  conjuring  unexpected  exhibition  opportunities.  All  in  the  name  of  fostering  conversation,  championing  new  directions  in  photography,  and  cultivating  ties  within  an  ever-­‐expanding,  globe-­‐trotting  community  of  photographers.      Our  mission  at  United  Photo  Industries  is  to  promote  and  showcase  emerging  photographers  through  curated  exhibitions  both  locally  in  DUMBO,  Brooklyn  and  around  the  world.      Working  in  partnership  with  local  galleries  and  key  media  partners,  we  concentrate  on  producing  exhibitions  that  explore  new  thematic  directions  in  photography,  either  as  site-­‐specific  projects  or  in  our  Gallery  Headquarters  in  DUMBO.      Drawing  upon  our  international  network  of  curatorial  partners,  we  are  able  to  provide  unique  exhibition  opportunities  for  emerging  photographers  and  facilitate  their  entry  into  art  markets  both  locally  and  globally.    A  Board  of  Advisors  comprising  of  leading  professionals  in  fields  such  as  photography,  site  specific  events  &  festivals  and  visual  arts  projects,  is  currently  being  formed  and  will  be  announced  in  early  February  2012.
