Photon Pursuit of Innovation. SGBIT ECE Bi-Annual News Letter July-Dec 2018 DEPARTMENT OF ELECTRONICS & COMMUNICATION ENGINEERING The Electronics & Communication Engineering Department was started in the year 2008 and now conducts one undergraduate program and Ph.D program with affiliation to VTU. Highly qualified & experienced faculty members, support four core specializations (VLSI Design and Embedded Systems, Digital Communication & Network, Signal processing, Power Electronics) in the department. UG students are encouraged to take up interdisciplinary research in various domains and students are placed in reputed companies like IBM, TCS, Infosys, Robert Bosch, Mind Tree. All the programs are outcome based, structured to meet the needs of Industry and Research. The program contents are upgraded with the involvement of industry and reputed research institutions. DEPARTMENT VISION The department of Electronics and Communication Engineering strives to develop responsive teachingLearning methodology, research and employable skills in allied fields by empowering students to become globally competent and socially responsible citizens. DEPARTMENT MISSION M1: To develop an active learning environment that ensures participation of students in both curricular as well as co- curricular activities by adopting student centric approach catering to the diverse needs of the student community. M2: To foster research, innovation and creativity among students by motivating them to have in- depth knowledge of Engineering fundamentals in respective fields. M3: To encourage development of entrepreneurial skills amongst students by imparting quality Education and value added skills required for sustainable and holistic development. M4: To inculcate amongst students team spirit, leadership qualities, positive attitude and effective communication skills to solve societal needs. PEO’s PEO1: To reinforce the concepts and fundamentals in mathematics, science and engineering to cultivate problem solving skills and to enthuse for higher studies. PEO2: To empower our graduates with comprehensive knowledge in the domain area. PEO3: To provide an opportunity to enhance practical knowledge by developing conceptual and design skills with innovative ideas. PEO4: To prepare graduates to use modern tools, techniques and skills to apply the technical skills in various pertinent topics of the domain area. PEO5: To nurture graduates with knowledge of management and engineering disciplines that assists in strengthening entrepreneurial qualities, efficient communication skills and ethics needed for a professional career

MINI –PROJECT EXHIBITION

Mini-project Exhibition and fresher’s welcome function was

organized on 3.10.2018.

More than 140 students participated and exhibited 35 innovative

projects which were reviewed and judged by Mr.Veeresh Ambe (Senior

Software engineer Vayavya Labs) and Mr.Bharat Gibse (Senior

Software engineer Vayavya Labs).

The Chairman of Governing Council Shri.S.G.Sambargimath.

The Principal Dr.S.S.Salimath , all the HODs,Senior Professors , faculty

members and students of the department visited the event . 5th semester

students of ECE, Ms.Ashwini A.and team won first prize and

Mallikarjun and team won second prize. Event was coordinated as a

part of the Innovation Centre by Prof.Shilpa Bairanatti and Prof.Anita

Patil

In continuation with miniproject exhibition, welcome function was

organized for 3rd semester students through WAVECE association.

Event was inaugurated by chief guest Mrs.Uma Bondada ,VP

Engineering and co-founder Vayavya Labs, Belagavi.

GUEST LECTURE ON

TALK ON STUDY ABROAD AND STUDY IN INDIA

An invited talk was organized on Study Abroad and

Study in India (MS and MBA respectively) on 18th September

2018.

Resource person Mrs. Tulsa Patil, Director, T.I.M.E,

Belagavi discussed about importance of higher education ,

opportunities to pursue higher education in India and abroad.

Her colleagues spoke about body language and Resume

Writing. Dr. Ravi M. Yadahalli coordinated the event.

EDUCATION ABROAD A guest lecture on ” Education Abroad” was arranged for 4th

semester students on 6th September 2018.

Ms. Benazir Shaik interacting with students The resource person was Ms. Benazir Shaik of Transcend Institute of

Foreign Studies, Belagavi. The talk was not only informative but also

motivating. She discussed in detail about GRE, IELTS and TOFFEL,

how to prepare for these examinations and crack them, what should be

the score to get selected in top universities.

The lecture was followed by demonstration.

STUDENTS’ ACHIEVEMENTS

1. Tajuddin Killedar of 8th semester won gold medal in

“ Taekwondo “ competition organized by Karnataka Dasara

Sports from 10th to 16th of october 2018 at Mysore

2. Ajay Shirali of 6th semester participated in “ Archery

competition” organized by Karnataka Dasara Sports from

18th to 20th of October 2018.

3. Tajuddin Killedar of 8th semester won first prize in Mehandi

Design competition on 4th November 2018 held at Hubli.

SGBIT CAMPUS

drill was organized with the help of Fire Station, Beagavi on

25th of September 2018. Speaking on the occasion, Mr.

Venkatesh Takkekar, Fire Station Officer, Belagavi told the

students that fire drill is a duplication of the actions taken in

the event of a real fire. He asked those who gathered to get

training to understand the fire precautions and what to do if a

fire were to occur

Fire Station Officer (FSO) in his speech explained the common

causes of electrical fires, importance of fire alarms and

highlighted various calamities around the world.

The event was coordinated by Dr. Ravi M. Yadahalli and Prof.

Vijay Patil

GUEST LECTURE ON MICROPROCESSOR (8086)

One day Guest lecture on “Microprocessor (8086)” was organized on

10/05/2019. Prof. Siddalingesh Navalgund of SDMCET Dharawad was

the resource person. The resource person has vast experience in

academics. The lecture helped the students of 4th Semester in enriching

the study of the subject in perspective of industry requirements and also

faculty to broaden their knowledge in the field of Microprocessor.

INDUSTRIAL VISIT TO SUPA DAM

The students of IV sem (A & B Div) Visited Supa Dam Uttar Kannada,

One day Guest lecture on “CONTROL SYSTEMS (State

Variables)” was organized on 4th May 2019. Prof. Udayakumar

S. of VCET Puttur was the resource person. The resource person
