Mediterranean - Shared & Divided is visual art project about in the Mediterranean area. The interdisciplinary project explore photography, mixed-media and installation for create contemporary motions of this space. Between Sarajevo, Tunisia, Istanbul and Cairo we promote a dialogue among communities sharing commons backgrounds. In a actual fragmentation of Mediterranean belt due of an hard european migration politic, artists propose new visual artworks for contribute to pluralism, diversity and multiculturalism dialogue.

About the photographs

The aim of the photography is to create contemporary images of the Mediterranean area. In a perspective of social photography and an abstract work we present Shared & Divided Mediterranean exhibition. We invite you to enjoy a selection of artworks from 11 collections that make up the Mediterranean photographic project - Shared & Divided. The collections offer a panorama of visual arts with an eclectic selection of Mediterranean portray and photos more experimental and abstract with an intense study about lines and lights.

About the Project

The project begins with my reflexions made on the current fragmentation of the Mediterranean area. Schengen policies, Frontex agency and creation of CETI deportation centers generate rifts between communities in areas of Africa, the Middle East and Europe. Because European’s management of immigration is moving to a militarization of the southern Borders, the Mediterranean Become an key area of control. The Mediterranean has Become a more pronounceable borders of the world: a real divided area between north and south.

The militarization of the european policy on immigration create divisions between the west coast and their African and Asian banks to transform the sea in the framework of a human catastrophe. The growth of the people arriving by boats off the coast of Cadiz, Malta or Lesvos island is one of the most visible fact of this fracture of the Mediterranean area. The policies of Frontex and deportations increase the difficulties of refugees and immigrants trying to cross the sea. Them travels are transformed into an odyssey where thousand people die each year. Passengers who survive are persecuted by the police of the coast, imprisoned or deported.

This untenable situation is contrary with mediterranean culture which common value of lifestyle, across political and religious differences. Connections between the African and Asian coast are fragmented and divided with their northern neighborhood. Because the Mediterranean history is the result of interactions Between Communities, we want to create the art project Mediterranean - Shared & Divided to contribute and promote an area with all it diversity, with a full liberty of movement. An area of freedom, open and hospitable.
