This photograph is very strong because the picture is so intimate and gives us an idea of there relationship. You cant help but think that John is clinging on to her, almost as if she is the rock in the relationship. The intriguing theme of this image aims to invite the viewer to think about human interaction.

Annie isn't scared to get intimate with her subjects. She wants the people that she's photographing to be comfortable with her and at ease.

The subject of this photograph is Willie Nelson. The intense details of an aging face and the contrast with his long wavy hair is the most noticeable aspect of the photograph. The deep wrinkles come alive in the picture before anything else. The texture in this photograph enhances the realism and depth of the picture. It puts into perspective of how old he is and how much he has accomplished in his life. The foreground is more in focus compared to the background. This isolates the subject ( Willie Nelson) and allows us to concentrate on him more.

Purpose of her photography?Annie mostly takes photographs to promote. While working with many different magazines, her photographers made most front covers which is the most important part of selling a magazine. Front cover photographs concentrate more on promoting the magazine and the subject of the photograph. It was during a visit to the Philippines during the time of the Vietnam War that Annie first became involved with photography. At this time you could say that her photography started of as political and aimed at capturing the reality and what was going on around her.

Zoriah is a freelance photograph. He believes that being a freelance photographer means he is able to create what he wants. If he doesn’t capture the photographs that he wants then he feels that the only person he is letting down is himself. Freelance photography is very free.

Zoriah wants to educate people and make a positive change to the world and to give people a voice. There are so many possibilities to change the world and he hopes that by putting himself in danger and capturing these iconic photos will bring some sort of change to the world and show people (inform) about what really is going on in particular country's.

Example of his work…

Zoriah has sold and had his work published in Newsweek and other photo agencies. He normally starts his own projects by visiting country's with conflict or social issues and selling his photographs to local agencies and newspapers. The way Zoriah would go about this would be by seeing an editor and explaining his ideas. The editor wont promise freelance photographers like Zoriah that their photographs will be used. As a Freelance photographer you get commission and image royalties. The photographer will allow the photos to be used but will receive royalty funds. Zoriah photographs can also be found on his blog.

A boy cries outside of a feeding

station during famine in the

Kakuma refugee camp in Kenya

The simple composition emphasises the sadness and despair of a little boy. The baron space in the background creates a feeling of loneliness and helplessness. The background isn’t in focus making the subject (the child) more expressive. This is a typical documental recollection of the true tragic events that took place in Kakuma. Black and white exposure enhances the real life drama. This picture would have a big impact on any viewer because you feel sympathy for the child and want to help him. No one wants to see kids in this situation especially because there innocent and its not there fault.

Effect his work has on the viewer…

Annie and Zoriah? Both fashion and documented photography are used to achieve different purposes. Annie Leibovitz photographers are used to promote magazines and celebrities whereas Zoriah records true life events. As a fashion photographer, Annie chooses the subject and composition of her photographs. Documenting photographers have a much harder job to capture their images. Photographers such as Zoriah place themselves in extremely dangerous situations to capture a moment that could possibly change everything. The subjects in Annie’s photos are the most dominant aspects through which she tries to convey the message to the viewer. The backgrounds of her photographs don’t contribute much to the overall result In my opinion.

Page 19: Photography anni zoriah.pptx complete

The composition of subjects within the frame is quite spontaneous and natural. Zoriah photographs the unexpected developing in front of his eyes. His photographs are real, raw and powerful. His images not only show people but also landscape environments and the aftermath of natural and manmade destruction.
