Photographer Image AnalysisOliver GrunewaldBlue Lava

PurposeThis landscape photographer Oliver Grunewald took this image. This was taken to show the beauty of a Cerulean eruption, which happens when volcanoes have a large amount of pure sulphur, which gives the lava an icy blue colour. The photo is was taken at the Erta Ale volcano in Ethiopia. This image will be shown in places that have a connection with nature such as Exhibitions and Museums which will be good to show images and sculptures of this sort of image with the blue lava. The image will be used in places that show natural beauty in a landscape, as this is a rare spectacle to witness. The image might generate income from people who are not lucky enough to see the real life event happen but can also come from people buying the image and seeing how greatly the image was composed will make the image sell more.

Composition and framingThe composition of the image is in the fore ground there is a lot of the blue lava, which dominates the image as it draws attention to the foreground of the image. The original orange lava is strategically located at the centre of the image the smoke which goes up into a tent shape above the orange lava, this adds the affect that the blue lava is more majestic than any other lava flow. The image follows the rule of third, which allows the image to be shown in different sections in the image. The orange lava is located in the centre of the rule of third lines. In the bottom section of the image the blue stands out. The primary focus of the image is mainly in the front of the image where you can see blue and a bit of orange. The centre of the image is not in focus even though that magma which I spewing out of the volcano is orange.

Image Analysis

This image was taken with natural light but the image was taken at twilight where the is in the late stages of the day this helps bring out the blue and orange of the lava stand out against the black of the landscape. The subject of the image is the lava but within the subject there is the brighter different colour at the core. The purpose of the subject is to show how the lava stands out from the background but to also show this rare occurrence of nature where the extra sulfur of the volcano make this lava a blue colour. Connotation of this image can differ, as this is one of the underrated wonders of the world so the photographer brought this to light to show that the impossible is possible.

Meaning

The meaning of the photograph is to show how much rareness of the volcano with the excess sulfur where it only happens in one other volcano in the world. The point that the photographer is trying to make is to get this place on the map for the amount of outstanding beauty the Erta Ale has. The image is making a statement about the world, which is that the impossible is possible ad that everything that Mother Nature is beautiful.

Oliver GrunewaldChristmas Colours – Aurora Borealis

Purpose

The photo was taken to show the beauty of the Aurora Borealis mixed in with the sunset, this makes the two forces seem that they are rivaling against each other in the night sky. This image might be shown in astronomer magazines where people can see. This image could be displayed in places of art such as museums where people would look at the amazing images of the Aurora Borealis. This image will generate income from places, which have an interest with images from the spectacles of the sun and the earth. Places such as museums.

Composition and Framing

The composition of the image makes the image look like a war in the night sky with the vibrant greens but also the evil oranges in the bottom left of the image. It seems like the image was shot with high aperture. The reason that I can tell that the image was shot with high aperture is that the image was shot at night but also there is a lot of detail in the night. The right side of the image is dominated by the greens of the Aurora Borealis but the left side of the image is orange but at half the size which make the image dominated by the green and orange but faded in with the black.

Image Analysis

Page 4: Photographer image analysis

The use of colour has a major impact on the image as without the colour from the aurora and the sun it will just be an image of the night sky. The orange, green with a hint of purple in the aurora. No lighting was applied to the image, as it was taken at night with the natural light available at the time. This can be seen that no lights where used as the landscape below the horizon is completely blacked out. The purpose of the subject is to show how beautiful the northern lights adjacent to the sun can be. Connotations of this image can be that there are two forces opposing each other.

Meaning

The meaning of the photograph is to show how great the Aurora Borealis looks in the night sky when the sun is setting. The image has a theme, which shows different two different forces, which are facing against each other in the night sky such as a battle of the gods.

Composition and Framing

The image was composed in a way to show the subjects pain and suffering as there homes and lives get destroyed. The rule of thirds in this image has the girl in the centre of the image showing the main girl in the centre with people either side of the image. The centre of the image will in the rule of third give affect to the girl as she is the only one with no clothes but everyone else has clothes on.

Image Analysis

The image is black and white where most of the still cameras in that day in age were black and white only some high tech cameras would have colour. This adds affect to the image with the gloomy grey in the background when the people making their way down the road in sorrow. The lighting of the image is using natural light, which is a good source for light when it is daylight. The purpose of the subject is to show the horrors of the Vietnam War and how children’s lives have been destroyed.

Meaning

The meaning of the photograph is to show the horrors of war and how it can ruin a person life due to someone else’s decisions. This Image is making a point to stop war as it affects more people that it is intended to hurt. This makes statement about the world that there will never be peace in the world when people are at war. People will always be at war with each other.

Purpose

The purpose of the image is to show how soldiers themselves don’t appreciate the concept of war, as they believe ‘War is Hell’. The image will be used in ways to protest wars as this shows a soldier with ‘War is Hell’ on his helmet. The image would be displayed in Exhibitions for mainly War. This image could generate income as a way to show the audience that there is no beauty in war. Composition and framingThe composition of the image is to show the text on the soldiers helmet and the soldiers face. The rule of thirds of this image has the Helmet at the top 3rd of the image and the soldiers face in the centre of the screen whilst having the model slightly to the left of the image. Image AnalysisThe colour that was used in the image is black and white which was standard for images back then because not much images had colour to them. The lighting of the image is natural as the left of the soldier's face is a bit lighter than the opposite. The purpose of the subject is to show that even though he is a soldier who has most likely killed people before, he thinks that the concept of war is wrong and don't believe in the concept of war. The costume that the subject is wearing is was a standard American Military Uniform that they wore during the Vietnam War. Meaning The meaning of the image is to make a point that 'war' itself is the worst thing ever. The image is making a statement about the world as in human history there has been thousands of wars that has taken millions of lives and it never changes.
