Into to Photographic Image Making | PHOTO 1001 002 Project #1: Still life In Class Critique: Week 5, March 2. A proper still life in any medium can display technical mastery and be infused with rich histories and multiple meanings. Our first project challenges you to collect, arrange, observe and photograph in this age-old tradition. Use form, color, line and texture to create satisfying images, but keep in mind the Still Life is more than a simple arrangement; historically, symbolic content in still lifes has addressed issues such as the inevitable passage of time or the fleeting nature of life. Consider your relationship to some of these subjects and how you might depict it. Embrace the classics or invent your own symbolism. Specifically: Create 5 to 7 Still Life arrangements in the style of your choosing. 8 x 10” or larger. Some of our aims for this project will include: -Technical know-how - Printing, Camera techniques, Lighting - Arrangement – creative control and creation of satisfying compositions - Observation – Spending time just looking - Understanding and expressing symbolic content.
