WORK EXPERIENCE 6.06.08 Bucannon Taulilo- Makaea Palmers Garden Centre Bucannon started his work experience at Palmers Garden Centre toward the end of last year. He had a few problems settling in, but once he became familiar with his tasks, and made friends with the staff there, he was just great. Because he has a good memory and is very able physically, there are many jobs Bucannon is capable of doing. He has done weeding the pots of big trees and small plants, price tag labelling, unpacking incoming stock, setting up the plant stands, handling the big bags of bark and potting mix, and is now learning what they call “The trolley run”. This entails going into the car park and collecting the trolleys on a regular basis and being responsible for helping customers lift the heavy bags onto a trolley and putting into their car boot. Bucannon has become independent with his travelling to and from work by bus, walking up to Palmers and working with Heather. The trolley run job includes the use of a walkie talkie. Bucannon is looking forward to learning to use this. Val Hall Work Experience Coordinator Bucannon is weeding the roses then replaces them in order of colour with label and price facing forward for customers to see Bucannan has a wide range of tasks, he is very capable and it does not take him long to learn any new challenge they ask of him.
