StarrEtt ScrIbErSThe rigidity, light-weight, and easy handling advantages of the Starrett divider make it the favorite of log builders everywhere! The features of this divider include steel construction, forged legs, quadrant, knurled lock nuts and tempered points. This sturdy construction overcomes the possibility of the legs moving with the grain when scribing. The dual vial bubble attachment is fully adjustable. It rotates 360 degrees thus facilitating both vertical and horizontal scribing.

The Starrett divider combined with the rear mount dual vial bubble attachment makes this unit the most popular log scriber we have ever supplied to students, individual home builders and contractors. Since the early 1970’s more homes have been built using Starrett scribers than any other scriber. This unit is practically a must for accurate and tight fitting joints.

this chrome plated steel scriber is capable of a single or double scribe. It has a top mounted dual vial level and is easy to adjust. It is very sturdy and comfortable in your hand.

This scriber was designed by intellectual B. Allan Mackie, world renown log builder, instructor, and lecturer. This scriber has many features which adapt it specifically as a log building scriber. The main body is constructed of aluminum, the point and axis rod of stainless steel, and the nuts and bolts of brass. These metals feature durability, sturdiness and resistance to corrosion.

Other features are capability of using full length pencil and steel point at either straight or 24 degree angles and dual vial bubbles. These bubbles are visible from top, side and bottom for an over head, eye-level or low scribe. A cut-out on one side of the rotating level unit allows it to be functional for left or right handed scribing as well as vertical and horizontal scribing.

All these features make this a premium quality log scriber with many benefits for the log builder.

This Canadian made steel log scriber is very rigid and features a top mount double bubble level. It requires minimal adjustment and comes with a single pencil capability or as a deluxe dual scribe model.

These heavy duty log builder drawknives are manufactured from spring steel milled to a 23 degree edge and tempered to a 59 Rockwell hardness. This resists chipping while still maintaining a sharp edge. A sharpening stone should be used to touch up the edge. The tapered handles are angled and bonded epoxy to steel. This provides user comfort by minimizing hand slippage and finger cramping while still providing the user with maximum blade control.

The handles are positioned for drawknife to be used in the bevel down position. The two handle spreads are enough to peel most size logs while the different weights enable the removal of small knots and stubborn bark.

We offer a variety of light, medium and heavy weight specialty drawknives.

Light weight suitable for spindle, rail and post peeling and shaping.

These huge chisels are invaluable as finishing tools for mortise and tenon, planing of door and window sills and notches. One style features the offset socket handle fitting, half oval top surface and absolutely flat bottom planing surface. The stick axe style features a steel handle welded perpendicular to the slick for extra leverage. It is also sharpened to an edge on the two sides giving it an added versatility of being able to cut on three edges.

Both styles have excellent steel which tenaciously holds a sharpening.

Made in England by Henry Taylor, these chisels feature square sided blades, exceptionally long length, and socket fitted handles. The handles are replaceable and have a steel reinforcing ring which helps prevent mushrooming during excessive pounding and extended periods of use. They come sharpened and ready to use. A must on any timber framing project.

A variation of the slick, this tool is a flat one side and an outcannel bevel on the other. Fitted with a socket fit handle, this tool can be used effectively on either side for planing, dressing and as a clean-up tool. Other advantages are that they will sharpen even carbide, maintain their flat base, can be used wet or dry, and will not break if dropped. They come in four color coded grits ranging from extra coarse (220 mesh), coarse (325 mesh), fine (600 mesh), to extra fine (1200 mesh). They also come in many different sizes and styles.

Log cLEatS

ScrIbE LEvELEr PLatE

This heavy hammer is very useful in moving timbers or logs to their “final fit” position without marking or damaging. This is a deadblow style hammer with a hard composite rubber head and rubber-gripped PVC handle with a fibreglass core.

Caution should be taken to use on flat surfaces only as damage could occur to rubber head if struck on corners or sharp surfaces.

Log cleats are used for holding a log in a certain position so it does not turn or for rolling a log on one spot when on intersecting walls. One style comes with two sets of sharp lugs enabling it to hold small to medium size logs. Another style is heavier and higher to hold large logs. Both styles are now re-inforced with a welded gusset to help prevent them from straightening out. They come as a pair attached with a 3 foot cord which allows them to be thrown over a log when not in use.

When this tool is attached with screws to a convenient, stable base and adjusted plumb with its several adjustments, it then is invaluable in quickly and easily levelling your scribers.

cannon carvEr & SuPErmInI ProFESSIonaL barSManufactured since 1955, Cannon bars have long been renowned as state of the art in the chainsaw industry. One of the big features of Cannon bars is that the groove is machined as opposed to being ground for mass produced bars. This results in the groove being more precise right from new. Every Cannon bar is also put through rigorous quality assurance checks prior to packaging. The steel used in their manufacturing is also harder resulting in at least several times the life of mass produced bars by customer own testimonials. Although costing somewhat more than mass produced bars, the benefits and longevity are well worth the price.

Cannon has long made the regular Super felling bar, then the carving bar, and more recently has undertaken to manufacturing the Super Mini Professional bar which was once manufactured by Windsor before they were bought out.

ImPortant: When ordering bars, we require the following information to get you the right bar.- Make and model of your chainsaw - Length of bar required - Pitch of chain and thickness gauge of driver being used. If 3/8” pitch, whether it is “regular 3/8” pitch (larger) or “Low Profile” (smaller)

Product# Price DescriptionK-11-698 $349.00 HEADCUTTER miter attachment; 75˚ range.

hEadcuttEr mItEr attachmEntThis attachment clamps to any chain saw in seconds transforming it into a giant vertical cutting jigsaw. It is laterally angularly adjustable through 75˚ from vertical. It has a wide sturdy base plate which fully supports the weight of the saw through its angular range and provides excellent stability for accurate freehand cuts with a long cutting bar. By using the top cutting edge of the bar, the chain cutters throw wood chips away from the operator and cut area. This in combination with a large opening in the base plate and the U-shaped chain bar clamp located will behind the upper cutting edge of the chain bar provide an unobstructed view of the cutting chain as it is applied to the wood. With the HEADCUTTER the operator can easily guide the chain saw to follow a snap-line or scribed arc making it the perfect “framer’s” tool for gang cutting ganged lumber, beams placed on edge, structural insulated roof panels, etc. beyond the reach of most circulars.

Three of these informative and instructional books are written by the man who is credited with reviving the round log home building industry many years ago, namely, B. Allan Mackie! This world renown builder, instructor, lecturer and author has written these books so that log builders and prospective log builders can share his knowledge worldwide.

This textbook, used by many log building schools, covers all aspects of log building from log acquisition, site preparation, building foundation and wall construction to interior finishing.

In this, B. Allen Mackie’s latest book, he takes us on the exciting ride of following the building of his personal home almost entirely by himself on a large acreage in Ontario. He demonstrates in this book that with the right attitude, a will to learn and a desire to create something of one’s own, the average person is more than capable of building a log house that will serve them for many, many years. Supported by hundreds of photographs and detailed drawings and with the consideration of the ecology in mind, we are taken through the entire process of selecting the land, purchasing and preparing the logs and the entire steps of building the home right up to moving in and spending the first winter.
