Dear Families, The Year 3/4 camp to Anglesea went very well with the children enjoying a great time taking part in the many activities available. Even though the weather wasn’t perfect, the children and our flexible staff did very well. Thanks to Brett Bennets, Dave Cahill and Glenn Reynolds who went along to support our staff of Jo Townsend, Anne Enright, Emmanuel Kerr and Kim Bott. A thank you to all concerned. Our Olympics Day is on this Friday, 26 September and is looking like it will be a lot of fun with a number of sporting and Olympic themed activities for the children to take part in. Parents are invited to join us at 2:50 pm in the Gym for the Closing Ceremony.

Next Tuesday, 30 August we have our Parent Information OLSEL night where many of our children are going to share what they have learned and are still learning through our project. The night starts at 5.30pm with a BBQ provided for families, our activities will start at 6:00pm and the night concludes at 7.00pm. We hope to have as many parents present as possible for this valuable information session. We have had discussions at some of our staff meetings regarding the Swimming Program we have been running every year. When we weighed up the fact the children were missing 15 hrs of teaching time, to take part in about 3 hours of lessons in groups of 4 – 7, we decided the time lost wasn’t worth it. Therefore, the Swimming Program will not be running next year. When you consider the time and number of lessons a child takes to learn how to swim, our Program was not making that much difference. At the end of this newsletter there are a variety of venues who offer lessons at different costs during different times of the week. I’m sure parents who are keen for the children to learn to be safe swimmers will take their children along to these lessons. Our school counsellor Amy Powell will be leaving us this month to prepare for the birth of her baby. We thank Amy so much for the work she has done with our children and wish her the very best over the next few months. Our stand in counsellor will be Suzanne Beaver who has worked with Amy at St Aloysius in the past. We’ll welcome Suzanne and thank her for coming to work with us. We have our Fathers’ Day celebrations next Friday, 2 Sept starting at 12.30pm. We will have Mass in the church followed by a sausage sizzle lunch provided by our P&F and visitors can stay to be with the children throughout lunchtime afterwards. Looking forward to a big day and hope lots of dads, grandads, and other significant males involved in the lives of the children will be able to join us. Please note there will NO FRIDAY MORNING prayer on the 2nd of September as we will pray together at Mass at 12.30pm. Book week Dress Up Day, this year we will hold our book week dress up day on Friday, 2 September, this falls during National Literacy and Numeracy Week and is the day of our Father’s Day celebration. On this day the children are invited to dress up as a favourite book character, simple homemade costumes or something that you already have would be ideal, we certainly do not want parents to feel that they have to purchase something new for this event. The Family Movie event on Sunday, 11 September at the Regent theatre sounds like a great family night. Tickets are now available from the school office. After a most successful Comedy Night which raised over $5000 (amazing result!!) for our school we all need to get behind our hard working P&F parents and support our Movie event fundraiser. There will also be a Parma Night social event in Term 4, so November 9 is a date to mark on the calendar. Congratulations all the children celebrating their Confirmations, with our first group last weekend and our final group of children this coming weekend. We keep these children in our prayers as they take an important next step in their spiritual journey in living in Jesus; story. Another big week coming up! Joe Caruana

Congratulations to…

Well done to our award,

recipients this week.

What a terrific effort everyone,

keep up the great work!

Look who is in the news…

A thank you to Maddie 5/6MB for

bringing in her great grandpa’s

Olympic Sydney 2000 replica

torch to share with us.

The torch put in a few more miles

as each child had a go at

carrying and handing on the

torch and perhaps imagining

what it would be like to have this

privilege.

JUNIOR NEWS

Welcome to Week 7. This week we are learning about the insect, the ant and we have been talking about different habitats and what we might find if we went there. The children are still excited about celebrating the Olympics as we have over the last two weeks and are looking forward to our Olympic Day this Friday. We have been drawing animals in class and a great website to visit is wedrawanimals.com. We hope you have a fantastic week. The Foundation Team, Georgia and Leah.

Welcome to Week 7! The Olympics may be over, however there is still excitement as children from Foundation to Grade 6 are getting ready for their own Olympics Day this Friday. Children are asked to wear their school sports uniform with their Family Group coloured top, appropriate to the weather. In addition to this, the children will need to bring a named water bottle and wear comfortable runners. Let the games begin! If you have any questions regarding the day, please see your child's teacher.

Next Tuesday, 30th August, parents are invited to attend our OLSEL information evening. The evening kicks off with a free barbecue for all family members at 5.30 pm. Following this at 6.00 p.m., staff will present information covering the four areas of OLSEL.

It is certainly a busy time of the term! Next week on Friday September 2nd, we have our annual Fathers' Day celebrations as well as a Book Day dress up. More information regarding both of these events will be sent out in the days ahead.

A reminder that our History Expo will be held on Tuesday, September 13th in the school's auditorium. Could the children please return their interviews by Tuesday, August 30th.

Over the next few weeks, we will be covering a unit on Grief and Loss through our Religious Education program. In this unit, students will be given the opportunity to explore the nature of change and loss in relation to changes in creation, the seasons and in the life cycle of people and animals.

Thank you to those families that have returned learning journals. If you have not returned these, please do so ASAP as we will need them next week. Have a great week! Savior, Shay & Bev
