Year 5 students and parents attended a Presentation and Information Session ad-dressed by Shaye Bourke from the Children’s University last Thursday. She gave an over view of what the Childrens’ University is, how students can get involved and the type of activities that can be included in a student’s learning journey.

This included students being involved in sports clubs, museums, galleries, and special groups. Children’s Uni-versity has a strong emphasis on experience as a significant learning tool, acknowledging the value of the range of different learning experiences and environments in which children engage outside of the school.

Children’s University is child led, meaning that children choose what activities they would like to participate in, and participation occurs on a voluntary basis. Once enrolled, students will be issued with a Passport to Learning in which the hours of validated activity are record-ed. Once they have reached the required num-ber of hours children will graduate from the Children’s University. Certificates are present-ed at graduation ceremonies held once a year at the University of Newcastle.

Those students who wish to enrol in the pro-

gram will need to have their application to the

School Front Office by this Friday 13th March.
