Bookclub online orders and payment due by 3pm, Friday, 10th June. Yr 3-6 Star Struck excursion, Friday, 17th June. Athletics Carnival, Tuesday, 21st June. Disco, Thursday, 23rd June. Dear Parents and Carers, Welcome to week 7! The cold, windy weather has certainly arrived – don’t forget your jumper or jacket on these chilly mornings. We welcome our three new student teachers – Miss Daisy Cooper – 3Mc, Mr Liam Ray – 6G and Miss Olivia Hunt – KS; we hope you enjoy your stay with us. Ashtonfield Public School will welcome a new school counsellor next term. Mr David Lambert will be joining our staff and working with us 3 days a week. Last Friday Hayden, Noah and Nico attended the Regional Cross Country carnival, held at the Cessnock Race Course. All three boys represented our school with the most amazing sportsmanship and effort. Nico was successful in qualifying for the State Cross Country carnival – he came 4 th in the 11yr old division. What a fantastic achievement for Nico and Maitland Zone! Our Star Struck dancers and drama performers will represent our school next week at Star Struck. All of the hard work will be worth it as the students perform at the Entertainment Centre in front of thousands! We can’t wait to see the show! We’ve had success on the basketball court. Congratulations to Mila (6S) and Brooke (5H) as they represented our school as part of the Hunter representative basketball team. The Hunter girls’ team came runners up in the NSW competition with our very own Miss Osland as team manager. A special mention this week goes to Flynn (3W). Flynn found a very special piece of jewellery at the bus stop this week and demonstrated our Ashtonfield values by handing it in straight away. Thank you Flynn for your honesty. Well done! Enjoy your long weekend – stay warm and we look forward to seeing everyone next week. Have a happy week, Deb and Staff. ATHLETICS CARNIVAL is on Tuesday, 21st June at Fred Harvey Oval, Woodberry. A note has been sent home with all Years 3-6 students. Students in Year 2 who turn 8 this year may also attend. Contact the school office for a permission note or go to our website. All notes and payment are due by Wednesday, 15th June. Please note: high jump is not held at the school carnival but if your child competes in Little Athletics and has a record of their most recent jump, inform the school and we will enter it in our results for consideration for the zone carnival. STAR STRUCK EXCURSION TICKETS are still available to students in Years 3—6 and will take place on Friday, 17th June. The cost is $35 per student. We would now like to offer tickets to any parents who would like to attend. The cost per adult is $40 which includes bus travel and Star Struck ticket. The bus will leave school at 9.10am and will return by 2.15pm. Tickets must be purchased by TOMORROW, Friday, 10th June, 2016. STUDENT ABSENCES A reminder that parents cannot send SMS messages to the school as the number no longer exists. If your child is absent you may phone the school or reply to a text message that will automatically be sent to you once all class rolls are marked and submitted. Each week a letter is generated for those students with an unexplained absence. This includes students who arrive late without a parent. It is a legal departmental requirement that the school follows up all unexplained absences. STAGE 1 INCURSION On Tuesday, 14th June Year 1 and 2 students will be treated to a Stage 1 Science Incur-sion Day to coincide with the unit Spaces and Places they have been studying in class. The day will start with a 30 minute presentation in the school hall by a representative from Stockland Greenhills to talk to the students about the expansions that are taking place; and how these changes will benefit our local community. Following this, the students will rotate between four different hands on, interactive activities throughout the course of the day. These activities are based around construction and the relationship we have with different places and spaces in our com-munity. We hope our students have an exciting day learning more about our community and the purpose of natural and built environments. DANNY BUDERUS SUPER CLINIC The Newcastle Knights will be hosting a Danny Buderus Super Clinic during the July school holidays.
