General Manager Perspective Continues

Hygiene Division

In the dynamic ever-evolving consumer products market, research and development (R&D) plays an instrumental role in innovation and creation of new products. The highly competitive nature of the hygiene diaper industry demands from market players a high performance, quality product with a competitive market price.

Phoenix Machinery provides key solutions for R&D and consumer division business units. The machine manufacturer partners with customers to continuously provide competitive and innovative consumer products, a combined success is exemplified in the development of the low waste stretchable back ears application on diapers.

Sleiman Eid, INDEVCO Consumer Products Division Manufacturing Manager, testifies,

“Phoenix Machinery team demonstrated high level of dedication and professionalism in their performance during design, commissioning, hands-on and hand-over of the stretchable back ears applicator at our consumer division. After-sales technical support was a key success element.”

Phoenix Machinery’s Stretch Ear Applicator Unit

Phoenix Machinery’s stretch ear applicator unit, a full servo driven kit, can be fitted on any machine with minor modifications on the main layout, thus, minimizing machine down-time during the assembly phase.

Furthermore, the electronic job change on the unit allows shifting between sizes and between side panel tape and regular tape without any mechanical modifications on the unit. The advanced control system on the unit allows the automatic positioning of the tape on the ear and further of the ear on the diaper during the different phases of the machine operation.

Compared to zero waste systems, the low waste systems, the low waste stretch ear applicator unit is less complicated and has lower cost (requiring lower investment), while providing flexibility in the ear shape.

CNC Division

Phoenix Machinery CNC Division designed, manufactured and assembled a new set of special worm wheel gears for a large mechanical factory in Lebanon. The gears make up a major part of a metal tube forming machine, with the torque transmitted to the forming rolls exceeding 7500 nm. The size and type of Phoenix Machinery’s new gears surpass existing standards of gear suppliers available in the local market.

The CNC Division performed 3D scanning analysis to retrieve gear coordinates and generated a 3D model using SolidWorks mechanical design software. Subsequently,

Phoenix Energy New Exclusive Agent for ReneSola Photovoltaic Panels

5 / www.phoenixlb.com

Over the past year, Phoenix Energy has been testing a Catalytic Diesel Filter, a new product to be added to its existing portfolio of renewable energy solutions. There is a pressing need for this product in the Lebanese society, due to the wide spread use of diesel generators in towns and cities of Lebanon to compensate for government electricity black outs.

The predominantly used diesel generators produce large amounts of soot, carbon particles, which deposit on building walls and contribute to harmful effects on the human health, in particular, the respiratory system. Although argued that with proper maintenance soot from diesel generators can be eliminated, such necessary maintenance is not currently practiced by owners nor will it be in the near future due to the necessary expenses.

Subsequently, Phoenix Energy introduced the Catalytic Diesel Particle Filter (CDPF), which captures soot, into the Lebanese market in order to provide a quick and easy solution to growing environmental concerns.

The filter reaches high temperatures, which transforms the captured soot into less harmful CO2, reducing soot emissions by 95-99%. In addition to soot captured, the filter reduces the Carbon Monoxide (CO) emissions by approximately 50%. The Catalytic Diesel filter can be easily installed with minor modifications to the sound proof room.

Phoenix Energy signed a new agreement with Australian-based DataLink International, supplier of specialist, renewable energy products and technologies. The agreement supports Phoenix Energy’s continuous effort to supply high-quality innovative eco-friendly products and solutions.

As of 2 June 2011, DataLink International appointed Phoenix Energy the exclusive distributor of ReneSola photovoltaic (PV) panels in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. Australian Ambassador to Lebanon, Lex Bartem, supported the agreement between Phoenix Energy and DataLink International.

Osta explained the different types and sources of medical waste and the effects on the environment. Furthermore, he addressed the current situation in Lebanon and provided figures concerning waste generated.

Osta emphasized the risks of medical waste in Lebanon’s unsecured landfills. Medical waste is the most harmful to the environment, even though it is only a small percentage of the total waste generated in Lebanon.

Osta recommended a solution to manage medical waste in Lebanon and concluded that a centralized station for medical waste energy conversion will be more effective than individual hospital waste management plans.
