Works
Social Relevance
Philip Pullmans relevance comes from his unique viewpoint on writing and the fact he is one of the more outspoken
atheist‟s who write.
Most famous of his books the „His dark Materials‟ trilogy is well known. It is an excellent piece of fiction that deals with
several controversial issues, mainly religion. Mainly however Philip Pullmans work allows the reader to finish the
story and have question one they do. Not only this but he, unlike some authors is not as focused on the technical
aspects of writing but on the story itself.
More importantly Philip Pullmans work is the kind that makes a reader question their perceptions and views, this is
extremely important in developing our own sense of self, many people might not realize the effect books can have.
Reading material that makes a reader question their values and beliefs makes a person come to conclusions for
each question that it arouses and in this furthers an individual in finding their own ideas.
“Everything has a meaning, if only we could read it.”-Philip Pullman
