RaytheonBlock 1B AAW ImprovementEO ANGLE TRACK
Phalanx Track Radar(Angular Track Accuracy = 2-3 mrad)
• EO angle track data is inherently more accurate In both elevation andazimuth than the track radar and mitigates the elevation track fluctuationscaused by “multipath” when tracking sea-skimming missiles
• The Phalanx system must first acquire and track the target with the radar, then transition to using the EO subsystem’s angular data. Target rangewill always be provided by the track radar.
Phalanx Thermal Imager(Angular Track Accuracy = 10-50 µrad)

•50% Increase in Mass (105 g vs. 70 g)•38% Increase in Cross-sectional Area•New Ni-Co Alloy Decreases Shatter thru AT-1 Array - Penetrator retains >90% of original mass thru AT-1 array - ELC’s residual KE at the Warhead is greater than Mk-149•Swaged Aluminum Wind Screen Does Not Come Off During Flight, Which Improves Ballistic Stability•Requires Optimized Gun Barrels

DUCTING /MULTIPATH REGION
• Low Frequency Radars– Suffer In The low-e region from ducting and multipath– Minimum range limits close-in target engagements– Suppress target returns due to land clutter fold over
(Land clutter folds into target cells, raises detection threshold)• The Phalanx High Frequency (Ku Band) Search Radar Provides:
– Low-E detection performance To support missile engagements– High data rate target tracks– Close-in target tracking To support gun Or missile engagements– Target detection in land clutter environment

Raytheon
• Lethality Depends On Hits, Not Caliber– ELC Provides Lethality Equivalent To APDS Calibers Compared– Phalanx Achieves More Hits at Greater Ranges
• Phalanx Handles More Targets In A Given Time– Block 1B Fire Control Provides Superior Performance
• Phalanx Has The Greatest Single Target Kill Range– Block 1B Fire Control, Dispersion, Projectile Lethality Performance was
Superior
• Phalanx Block 1B Has the Lowest Production, Operation &Life Cycle Support Costs
• OPEVAL Results Recommended Range Increase to 4K yds
