The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in China expanded at an annual rate

of 10.70 percent in the last quarter.

The United States Gross Domestic Product is worth 14204 billion dollars

or 22.91% of the world economy, according to the World Bank.

China Gross Domestic Product is worth 4326 billion dollars or 6.98% of

the world economy, according to the World Bank.

The economy of the United States is the largest in the world.

China's economy is the second largest in the world after that of the United

    States

The United States is a market-oriented economy where private

individuals and business firms make most of the decisions.

China's economy has changed from a centrally planned system that was

largely closed to international trade to a more market-oriented that has a

    rapidly growing private sector.

    DESPITERECENTGROWTH, US RECOVERYISSTILLWEAK

In the fourth quarter of 2009, the United States economy

expanded at an annualized rate of 5.9%

Growth was mainly due to inventory rebuilding and the recent

    economic expansion maybe short lived

Households demand is necessary to elevate production levels

and the poor condition of the labor market is having a negative

    impact on the recovery pace

Contd.. The US economy has lost 7.3 million jobs since therecession began in December 2007

The job creation promise made by many politicians is not

working because the unemployment rate is the highest in

    26 years

The biggest fiscal deficit on record combined with the

anticipation of low interest rates for a long time is

discouraging investors from depositing money in the

    United States

The US government deficit is likely to reach 10.6% of

Contd.. Chinas growth in 2009 was largely a result of 4 trillion

yuan stimulus package directed mostly to infrastructure

    projects and lending

China's wide M2 measure of money supply and fixed asset

investments grew almost 30% year on year Putting a lot of cash into an economy during a slowdown

may stop job losses and stimulate growth

China has been keeping the value of its currency yuan

pegged to the US dollar at very low levels The trade-weighted value of Yuan also declined, making

foreign goods more costly in China

CHINA China -11.2% annually in the period 2005-2008.

In 2008, however, mainly due to decreased export demand anddeclining real estate investment, Chinas GDP growth sank to 9.0%

Stimulus package and the accompanying rise in short-term credit ( including a 4-trillion yuan investment

package, tax cuts, and consumer subsidies to shore upgrowth and employment).

More government investment came to infrastructure, scientific research and public service.

Meanwhile, the government shifted from a tight monetary

policy in 2008 to the moderately easy monetary policy in2009 to help the national economy counter adverseimpacts of the financial crisis.

For the first time in 6 years China faces a tradedeficit of $7.2 billion.

The countrys trade surplus had slid 34.2% to $196billion in 2009, down by $100 billion compared to theprevious year.

The diminishing surplus signals that trade may be adrag on Chinasexpansion, a contrast with the U.S.,where net exports contributed more to growth in thepast two years than any time since the 1940s.

Since it is the world's leading importer, there aremany U.S. dollars in circulation all around the planet.China owns an estimated $1.6 trillion of U.S. securities.

HDI- Ranking of US and China The Human Development Index is calculated using various indicators for quality of life, such as

health indicators and access to healthcare services, life expectancy at birth, nutrition levels, education and literacy levels, access to basic needs such as water and sanitation, and so on. It also

takes into account GDP per capita in terms of Purchasing Power Parity and percentage of the

Population living below the poverty line.

Countries high on the Human Development Index tend to have annual population growth rates of

1 percent or less, high urban population percentages (65 percent and up) and balanced percentages

of people under 15 and over 65 years of age. Those low on the index tend to have annualpopulation growth rates of 1.5 percent or higher, less than 35 percent of the population in urban

areas, and an under-15 population that greatly outnumbers those above 65 years (in most cases,

more than 10 times as many.)
