Opinion The TOWER14

“The smart people get enough; they get Dean’s List and other awards. Homecoming is the one chance for others to win some-thing. Faculty should not have a say in this.” -Tyshawna Neal

“I think that voting should be done by the senior class and the senior class only. It’s their year not the teachers.” -Adam Gibbs

“I think it’s important to focus on more than just popularity, but to change the tradition that’s been in place for years is ridiculous. Our Homecoming has always been one way and it is going to upset a lot of alumni to see the change.” -Alyssa Schrecengost

“Students should be the only ones who have a say because they know the people nominated in a better sense than the faculty does.” -Taylor Cassidy

Sound Off: What do you think of the Homecoming Court process?“I think it’s outrageous that a small group of people seems to have the authority to make decisions that affect the campus as a whole, and even more outrageous that these individuals are either first-or sec-ond-year students who haven’t had the chance to experience the signif-icance of our traditions.” -Marj Card

”I think that peers should be the only ones able to nominate people instead of some people nominating themselves.” -Rebecca Braithwaite

“I believe that faculty should have a say in the voting process because they know the students in a different aspect.” -Alex Tylka

“The application process is ridicu-lous. People should just be able to nominate others and the reward is only a piece of plastic, so it should only be as big of a deal as people make it.”-Alicia Jones

“I don’t think it’s fair that the se-nior class only gets to nominate four Homecoming candidates. I like the traditional way.” -Mallory Conkel

not all of my heels are comfortable. Some of them pinch my toes. Some of them rub on my heels. Most of the time, I will get rid of the heels that hurt. Other times, the shoes bring me so much enjoyment in other ways that I can’t bring myself to throw them out. In these cases, I know that wearing them may cause some temporary discomfort. However, I’ve learned to adapt to them. It’s important to know ap-propriate ways to make ourselves feel better after the pain whether it’s from an ill-fitting pair of shoes, or a fight with a friend. Sometimes

a simple bandage will do the job. Other times, you might have to consider throwing out the shoes.

Lesson 4: Live to the fullest.Do I really need 100 pairs of

shoes? Of course not! Having such a variety of shoes, in so many shapes and colors allows me to have a new experience almost every day. Of course, I have my stand-bys; the shoes that I wear more than others. Those are the ones that are broken in, they feel good and they’re com-fortable. But sometimes we need to break out of our comfort zones and try something new. A funky pair

of sky-high, electric blue strappy shoes with metal accents? Bring it on!

Lesson 5: Have fun.For me, shoes are fun. Shopping

for shoes is one of my favorite pas-times. I belong to a “Shoe of the Month” club, which emails me a selection of shoes on the first of ev-ery month. I get to choose a pair, and they will ship them to my door. I can’t tell you how much I look forward to the first of the month! Looking at all the trendy shoes puts a smile on my face. Picking out that month’s pair gives me a thrill. Life

should be that way. It should make us smile and thrill us. We should have fun with it. And, watch out for the cracks!
