WHAT DOES PETROLEUM ENGINEERS DO?

Monitor production rates, and plan rework processes in order to improve production.

Analyze data in order to

recommend placement of wells and supplementary

processes to enhance

production.

Specify and supervise well

modification and stimulation

programs, in order to maximize oil and

gas recovery.

Page 9: PETROLEUM ENGINEER

Develop plans for oil and gas field drilling, and for

product recovery and treatment.

Direct and monitor the completion and evaluation of wells,

well testing, and well surveys.

Design and implement

environmental controls on oil and

gas operations.

Find ways to improve production & optimize drilling,

completion & recovery methods.

Coordinate the installation,

maintenance, and operation of mining

and oil field equipment.

Inspect oil and gas wells in order to determine that installations are

completed.

Muhammad Faidhi Fahmi bin Ismail

Lives in Negeri Sembilan Fourth year student of Bachelor of

Petroleum Engineering

SPE (Society of Petroleum Engineers) President 2012

Holder of SHELL scholarship Used to internship with MISC

company at Miri, Sarawak as an economic evaluator

• Q : What does a petroleum engineer usually do?

A : Works as a petroleum engineer is begin by finding where is the

location of well. Once the well was found, they begin to start

Page 14: PETROLEUM ENGINEER

• Q : Which company had you internship with? A : Actually I had an internship with a company

named MISC. I works as an economic evaluator of offshore business unit. It

is an office based works.

• Q : How is your life during the internship? A : My works was a bit bored because I was working

with data and it was more to calculation. I handled about four projects

including four wells in Miri, Belud, Kikir and Cendor.

Page 15: PETROLEUM ENGINEER

• Q : What are your expectations in the career for your future?

A : After the graduation, I plan to apply as a production technologist at Miri,

Sarawak under SHELL company. Then, after 2-4 years I expect to be a

Senior Production Technologist followed by a Manager 3-5 years after

that. Ten years later, I will continue my career as a lecturer in any

university. Lastly before I retire, I would like to open up a business.

So, that’s all my plan.
