The names Heald and McMullan have been proposed. Both women are deserving of recognition, as they were members of the Hazelmere community who made a significant contribution beyond the local community. The names are supported by Geographic Names, Landgate. It is recommended that the Council approve the renaming of Fog Court to Heald Court, and Fluke View to McMullan View. BACKGROUND In December 2016, Fog Court and Fluke View, Hazelmere were approved by Geographic Names, Landgate. The names were selected by the developer from the City's Reserved Names register for a new subdivision off Anthea Street. In correspondence from the Hazelmere Progress Association to Geographic Names in August 2018, a request was made to change the names to Pace Court and Hewson Street. These were not supported for the following reasons: Based on the information provided the proposed name of Pace would be unsuitable, as it does not meet the naming criteria regarding personal/commemorative names; and Unfortunately the name Hewson (same and or similar names) has been overused within the metropolitan area. A petition containing 18 signatures requesting the names be changed was tabled at the Ordinary Meeting of Council held on 12 December 2018. DETAILS The names McMullan View and Heald Court were submitted to Geographic Names and preliminary approval has been granted by them.

A brief summary of the history of the names is provided below.

Heald

Judy Heald started running the Cub group in Hazelmere in 1957 and eventually became Scoutmaster when she graduated to Scouts. She was also heavily involved with the Tennis Club and was a champion state player, in addition to being a champion swimmer and diver.

McMullan

Enid McMullan was well known and loved for her development of the Quiz Night Movement. It became an Australia-wide movement and raised thousands of dollars for worldwide causes. She was a 'Quiz Star' herself, but also contributed many hours in adjudicating judging and designing Quiz competitions.

Her whole family was dedicated to the game of cricket and Enid started scoring for the Midland-Guildford club's junior matches and went on to become the official state scorer at the WACA ground. She was also the first woman scorer in first class matches in Australia.

Both women are deserving of recognition, as they were members of the Hazelmere community who made a significant contribution beyond the local community.
