PRESBYTERORUM ORDINIS AND THE MISSION
OF THE ORDAINED
Christ left a structure to His Church which rapidly
developed into a hierarchy with the express purpose of
governance and service in the Church. Appreciating this to
the fullest extent will enhance the proper collaboration
between the faithful and the hierarchy. Speaker: Fr. Stefano
Penna, Professor of Theology, Newman Theological
College. Session will be concluded with Vespers of the
Liturgy of the Hours. This sixth session in the Experiencing
Mercy series will be held at St. Peter's Parish, 541
Silvergrove Dr. NW Calgary on Sunday, Sept. 11 at
2:00pm. All are welcome.
EXPOSITION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT
This weekend there is a special invitation for you to pray for
atonement of abortion in front of the Blessed Sacrament. It
goes from Sunday at 5 pm to Monday at 5 pm with Holy
Mass at Sisters of Charity of St. Louis on 409 10A St. NW.

Pastor’s Perspective
Now that summer holidays are behind us and we’re back in the full swing of things, I'm sure that many of you are wondering how things are progressing with St. Peter’s Church Construction and for how much longer the washrooms will only be accessible by walking around the outside of the church! Thank you so much for your patience – I know it’s a trying time for us all. We've included an in-depth report that highlights all that we've managed to accomplish over the past few months along with what's left to be done during this phase of construction.
With regards to what's next, we are still in the midst of having conversations with W.O. Mitchell and the Public School Board to see how we might be able to expand our parking lot footprint near the back of the church to accommodate the future plans of expanding our sanctuary to 1000+ seats. The plan is to hopefully reach a shared space agreement and upgrade the entire parking lot facility at St. Peter's as soon as possible.
While September is usually the time of year when all ministry meetings, events, and other activities of parish life kick start into gear, as it goes for now – the only space that's available for us to use is our sanctuary and half of the narthex until some point in November. Please bear with us and keep our project in prayer. Things have been moving very smoothly and we are all very much looking forward to what the Spirit has in store for St. Peter’s once our New Spaces become available in the near future! Fr. Jonathan and I thank each and every one of you for all your support in helping us transform St. Peter's into an Amazing Parish.
In Christ,
Fr. Jerome

SOCIETY of ST. VINCENT de PAUL
When times are tough, food is the first place the
economically-vulnerable “cut back.”
God bless St. Peter’s Parish! The provision of a temporary
pantry enabled SSVP to continue to distribute hampers
despite summer construction work. St. Peter’s
Vincentians—and the people they serve—appreciate the
help!
More gratitude! St. Maria Goretti School gave SSVP a
$2,100 cheque in late June. The support of parish schools is
essential to SSVP’s work. God bless all of the school staff,
parents and students who make this assistance possible.
Clothing drive: SSVP accepts donations of children's
clothing. Winter outerwear is especially welcome. SSVP
volunteers match donations to families living in parish
boundaries. For info: Leave a message for Cheryl at 403-
288-9040, or contact [email protected].
Every can helps: SSVP uses donations of non-perishable
food to reduce our food costs. Every hamper includes:
canned beans, dry pasta, 1 kg quick oatmeal, tomato sauce,
PB, jam, canned fish and rice.
Cash and grocery card donations are welcome: Annual
donations of more than $25 are eligible for a charitable tax
receipt (so always include your name and email address!).
ALTAR SERVERS TRAINING
St Peter’s Parish would like to invite anyone who has
received their First Communion to become Altar Servers to
assist at the table of Our Lord’s Sacrifice. We hope you
encourage and allow to them to join in this service. It will
take their time and your commitment. It will be a beautiful
way for your children to express their active participation in
the life of the Church and learn how to become responsible
at their level. We currently are in need of Altar Servers for
the 8am and 11:30 am Masses on Sundays. The training
will be held at St. Peter’s on Saturday, October 22 from
10am to 12 noon. Snacks will be provided for all the
attendants. Please contact Perry Tilos at
[email protected] for more information.

RooF Update: The good news takes shape!
Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time
we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. (Gal. 6:9)

Construction work at St. Peter’s Church has given parishioners
plenty of opportunities to practice patience over the summer
months—and that fortitude is paying off as we move into the
Fall of 2016.
Here’s a synopsis of what’s happening behind all of those
temporary walls, as well as an idea of what parishioners can
expect in the coming weeks as the fastest-growing parish in
the Calgary Diocese prepares to wrap up Phase I of an
impressive renovation and reconstruction project.
More sharing. But take heart, this really is
temporary! Until renovated space opens on the
main and upper floors, parish groups will
continue to dig deep and share the narthex or
find alternate sites for meetings. This is likely
to end in November.
Accessible washrooms. Work on the main
floor washrooms is progressing, but these
rooms won’t be open for a while longer. Stay
tuned for the big reveal. Once that temporary
wall comes down parishioners will also see the
new “grand corridor” that leads to new main
floor offices and those barrier-free washrooms.
Top floor. The addition to the top floor is
progressing. Next up? A roof! This space features
three new meeting rooms and a rehearsal space for
those involved with the much-acclaimed music
ministry at St. Peter’s. The new floor tops the former
garage, where St. Peter’s has provided space for the
Society of St. Vincent de Paul.
New windows. New main and upper-floor windows
have been installed through the summer months.
Watch for new windows to be installed on the lower
level of the Parish Hall.
September’s To-Do List. The elevator arrived September 6
