Inclined Conveying
© Wypych, 2014
Case Study – AluminaBMEA requested to investigate critical
conveyor inclinations for alumina (20-100°C)
= 15° – 20° over 300 m (vertical feed)
Four (4) stages:1. Literature review
2. Flow properties: Angle of Repose (poured); Bulk density
IYL (explore effect of elevated temperature on );
WYL (Grade M belt, smooth and cleated Aerobelt)
3. Inclination (slippage) tests (same wall materials)
4. Critical conveyor inclination tests (modular conveyor that can be tilted at different angles)

Maximum Incline Angle (max)(standard belt conveyor)
1. CEMA 6th Edition (2005):
; ; lump size; particle shape
Cleating: max can be increased by 5 deg
Considers inclined conveying only Table
2. Golka (2007):
Equation: g; a (material acceleration at loading point); wall friction between material and belt
Considers inclined conveying and inclined feeding points Table
