The Huskies are coming off a weekend sweep at Maine and they current sit atop the Hockey East standings with a 4-0-0 record. NU is also the last undefeated team left in the league (5-0-1), after No. 4 New Hampshire fell to St. Lawrence on Sunday night. Junior goaltender Brad Thiessen (Aldergrove, B.C.) totaled his eight career shutout on Friday for the Huskies in the 1-0 win. He broke the former school record held by Keni Gibson that night with 29 saves. Thiessen posted a .982 save percentage on the week vs. the Black Bears. No. 4 Boston College also picked up two valuable points in league play with a 3-2 victory against Vermont at Conte Forum on Friday. Senior forward Andrew Orpik potted the decisive goal with 3:35 remaining in the game. Vermont’s Peter Lenes (Shelburne, Vt.) has scored a point in all four games so far this season for the Catamounts, he also ranks second among league scorer’s with seven points (2g,5a). No. 7 Boston University also sent a strong message in the national picture on Saturday with a dominating 7-2 win over No. 5 Michigan at Agganis Arena. Senior forward Jason Lawrence (Saugus, Mass.), the CCM/RBK Player of the Week, scored two of the Terriers’ five power play goals in the game. The Terriers continued Hockey East’s dominance in non-conference play this season with a impressive 12-3-2 record vs. the CCHA and WCHA and a 18-6-3 overall mark. Massachusettts shutout Rensselaer on Tuesday night, 6-0, at Houston Fieldhouse and then went to UNH on Friday and battled to a 1-1 tie at the Whittemore Center. UMass junior goalie Dan Meyers (Voor- hees, N.J.) continued his strong play with 56 saves in two road games. He recorded his first collegiate shutout Tuesday night and then made 31 saves, as the game’s No. 2 star, on Friday in Durham. UNH junior goalie Brian Foster (Pembroke, N.H.) matched Meyers efforts with 38 saves vs. the Minutemen. UMass-Lowell came out strong on Friday night at Tsongas Arena with a 4-1 victory aganist Providence College. Junior goalie Carter Hutton (Thunder Bay, Ont.) made 26 saves for the River Hawks in front of a soldout crowd of more than 6,100. Freshman David Vallorani (Hamilton, Ont.) notched a team-high two points (2a). Providence did pick up a non-league win on Saturday at Holy Cross, 6-4. Merrimack allowed only two goals all weekend. but came away with a 1-0 loss at Niagara on Saturday and tied 1-1 on Sunday at Canisius. TEAM NOTESBOSTON COLLEGE: With its 3-2 win over Vermont, the Eagles improved their record to 8-0-0 against Vermont in Conte Forum since the 2005-06 season…BC went 2-for-7 on the power play against Vermont and has now scored multiple man-advantage goals in three of its four games this season. The team is converting its chances at a 25 percent rate (eight-for-32), ranking fourth among national leaders…Junior center Ben Smith (Avon, Conn.) scored his first goal of the season in the team’s 4-3 conference win over Vermont. The goal extended Smith’s scoring streak to 11 games dating back to March 15, 2008 against Providence…With one as-sist, senior Kyle Kucharski (Saugus, Mass.) has now tallied three points (2g,1a) in the last three games.

BOSTON UNIVERSITY: The Terriers have allowed just two even-strength goals through five games this season...BU has now won 12 of its last 13 home games, including 10 straight in regular-season action...Thirteen different Terriers have scored at least one goal so far this season, matching St. Cloud State for the nation high, and 17 have recorded at least one point...As a team, BU boasts a plus-47 rating...BU posted a 4-1-0 record in October this season compared to an 0-4-1 mark in the month last year...The Terrier defense has given up just eight goals through five games. In 2007-08, BU’s opponents combined to score 21 goals in the first five contests...The 7-2 win over Michigan matched the Terriers’ most lopsided victory at Agganis Arena (5-0, Merrimack, 1/21/06) and tied the single-game rink record for goals by BU (7-4, UMass Lowell, 11/3/07).

MAINE: Maine rookie goalie Scott Darling (Lemont, Ill.) be-gan his career with a 109:02 scoreless streak before finally allowing a goal to the Northeastern Huskies on Saturday night...Maine defenseman Josh Van Dyk (Woodstock, Ont.) played in 31 games as a rookie without recording a point...This season, Van Dyk has already dished out two assists in four games...Maine defensemen Simon Danis-Pepin (Vau-dreuil-Dorion, Que.) and Matt Duffy (Windham, Maine) each played in their team-leading 100th career games on Friday night...Maine senior Chris Hahn (Fort Qu’Appelle, Sask.) was honored during the second intermission on Saturday night’s game for being named one of Hockey East’s Top Scholar-Athletes last summer...Former Maine great David Capuano was inducted into the UMaine Sports Hall of Fame this weekend.

MASSACHUSETTS: UMass is 1-0-1 this season against teams ranked in the nation’s top-5…The UMass penalty kill is 8-for-8 over the last two games…UMass is tied for 7th nation-ally in scoring defense allowing 1.50 goals per game…The Minutemen are also tied for 12th on power play percentage (.200) and tied for 20th nationally on penalty kill percentage (.875)…The 6-0 shutout win over RPI was the largest shutout win for UMass in 12 years (8-0 vs. Army, 11/22/96)...Dan Meyers ranks 12th nationally in GAA (1.47) and save percent-age (.948)…Danny Hobbs (Shawville, Que.), Doug Kublin (Manlius, N.Y.) and Casey Wellman (Brentwood, Calif.) each scored their first collegiate goals against RPI…Chris Davis (Simsbury, Conn.) scored a career-high two goals at RPI.

UMASS-LOWELL: The River Hawks have won two straight and are unbeaten in their last four home openers (3-0-1)…UML is 2-0-0 this season and 22-9-4 over the last three seasons when scoring two goals or more…Lowell has not allowed more than two goals in any game this season…UML has not allowed a first period goal this season…Nick Schaus scored his first goal since Oct. 21, 2006 (73 games) with a power play marker against PC Friday night…The River Hawks have killed seven straight and 15 of the last 17 power plays against…David Vallorani has five assists in his first four collegiate games…Thursday’s meeting between UML and Quinnipiac is the first ever between the two schools.

MERRIMACK: Merrimack saw its nine-game unbeaten streak (8-0-1) against non-conference opponents snapped in a 1-0 loss to Niagara on Saturday…The Warriors played two 1-0 games against Army and Niagara, marking the first time they have played back-to-back 1-0 games in school history…Joe Cannata’s shutout streak ended at 101:09 as the freshman stopped his first 55 shots and 66 of his first 67…The Mer-rimack penalty-kill is 33-for-37 through five games and 26-for-28 against non-conference teams…After missing the first three games with an injury, captain Rob Ricci (Brampton, Ont.) returned to the lineup, notching one assist in two games over the weekend…Merrimack has allowed just two goals over its last three games but has also scored just two.

NEW HAMPSHIRE: Sophomore forward James van Riemsdyk has scored in two-straight games (1-1-2) and has tallied a point in 10 of the last 12 games (4-12-16) dating back to Feb. 22 at BC…Danny Dries potted his first goal of the season on Sunday night... He has three points (1g, 2a) in three games played…Brian Foster has stopped 30+ shots on four occa-sions this season including both games this weekend. UNH is 4-0-1 in its last five against UMass…The line of Phil DeSimone (East Amherst, N.Y.), James van Riemsdyk and Mike Sislo (Superior, Wis.) has accounted for six of UNH’s 11 goals this season…For the second-straight season the Wildcats were unbeaten in their first four before suffering a loss…The Wild-cats were enter a home-and-home series with Northeastern next weekend. UNH’s lone series loss last year in Hockey East was to NU. The Huskies won the final two games in the series last year to earn the series win.

PROVIDENCE COLLEGE: The Friars avenged last season’s 6-4 loss to Holy Cross with a 6-4 win over the Crusaders on Saturday…It marked the first time since 1956 that the Friars played Holy Cross in Worcester…Six different Friars scored in the win over Holy Cross…The six goals marked the first time since November 2007 that the Friars scored six times in a road game…PC’s Friday night’s game at UMass Lowell was the first time in five games that the contest between the two teams did not go into overtime…Freshman goaltender Justin Gates (Cranston, R.I.) earned his first career win on Saturday…The Friars, who were among the league leaders last season in short-handed goals, scored their first short hander Friday.

Vermont: The Catamounts have lost nine straight games at Boston College dating back to 1994…Senior assistant captain Peter Lenes (Shelburne, Vt.) has a four-game scoring streak to begin the season (2g,5a) and ranks tied for sixth in the country in points per game (1.75)...Saturday’s Vermont and Boston University game will be televised on CN8…Lenes has four goals and five assists in 13 career games against BU while senior captain Dean Strong (Mississauga, Ont.) has one goal and eight assists in 13 games against the Terriers… Vermont visits former ECAC rival Dartmouth on Sunday. The Catamounts and Big Green have met at least once every sea-son since 1974 when UVM moved to Division I…UVM leads the all-time series 43-22-5.
