Thanks to the Flag Officers and Directors for a
job well done.
We appreciate all your work this year!
PETALUMA YACHT CLUB
Wow. October came and went with
a whistle. Busy getting ready for
the Installation dinner and the
coming of the New Year as Com-
modore.
As most of you have seen the bar has been stream-
lined a little, and there are only 3 fewer choices for
liquor than there was at the beginning of the year. I
did manage to get rid of some old stock, but can you
believe it, Southern Comfort is being saved for a
rainy day. I saw that there was only one bottle at the
beginning of the year, bought two more, and still
have 2 left. Order it, drink it, it’ll put hair on your
chest. (Maybe not the ladies!) Otherwise the bar is
doing OK. We didn’t do as well this year as we might
have, but the cruise in body count was way down.
Need to dredge.
I would like to thank all the folks that stepped up
and did their duty this year, and the effort some of
you went to be there. David Quist, opening the bar
for all sorts of parties. Reny for the fabulous din-
ners at Monday night football. Tina and Steve,
helping out during a difficult time for my family.
Certainly not last nor least the steady hand at the
helm, Gerry. He always seemed to be around the
club when you needed him, and then some.
I don’t plan to make a lot of waves this year as Com-
modore, but if you know me I tend to see a need,
then move and shake. I’m looking forward to more
cruises this year and a little something to do every
month to get us all together. It’ll be fun. After all,
that’s what we’re all here for!
See you around the club.

FLAG OFFICER’S REPORTS
Ahoy!
And so it goes… my year has
come and gone and now I must turn over the
reigns to the new bridge. The year went by fast
and I hope all of you enjoyed it as much as me.
From a great installation dinner with wine and
race cars (thank you Nancy) to many cruise outs
(thank you Mike) to a successful memorial day
(thank you Carol and everyone) to New Year’s
Eve, Oktoberfest, Cruise Ins, Halloween (multiple
witches and where’s Waldo?) to some great meet-
ings and dinners! Thanks to everyone that
helped, but special thanks to those that made it
so easy. Thanks to my board, Scott, John,
Janet and Mike. To staff commodore Marty.
To Sherri for keeping the books straight and
to the amazing David Quist for keeping it all
running as secretary. And a big thanks to
Diane for the best newsletter in the world!
And thanks to all the committee chairs; we
can’t do it without you. And finally to my
bridge, Ted and Tina. I’m looking forward to
having just as much fun in your years. Of
course, thanks to Nancy for all her help and
support! But the biggest thanks go to all the
members who make being a part of PYC so
special.

As we prepare for the installation dinner and round up the bridge for the transition let me take a mi-nute to reflect on the year. Our
Commodore Gerry has been professional and ran a tight ship. I have had the pleasure and honor to serve with him. Thank you Gerry, It has been always a good time. Our Rear Commo-dore Ted has been equally professional. I have been very fortunate to work with Ted, a world of knowledge that he enjoys communicated. As we know the student is only as good as the teacher and I feel confident that with Ted on my side we will have a successful bar next year. Thank you Ted, you are truly the best. A rock solid building committee, Thank you Al Alys. The installation dinner is on the calendar for No-
vember 8. A piloting class on November 1 & 15th. A rental for Mac and Francesca on November 14th. This is a Fri-day night, the club will be closed to mem-bers on that night as it is off season and that is allowed. A club rental for David & Janny on Thursday November 27. Thank you everybody who rented the club and sent in the paperwork. Every single rental was easier because of this. It was greatly appreciated. And every person who rented the club did their paperwork perfect. See you at the club! Tina RCO

With sadness I must
report that on October 1st,
Alta Gardner lost her
battle to cancer.
Alta was a long time PYC member,
holding positions as Secretary and
Newsletter editor. Many of our club
members have fond memories of her
at the club. Due to her illness she
resigned from the club a few years ago.
At the time of this notice, we do not
have any other information on any
service for her.
Casey Arena:
Our sincere Condolences for the loss of
your Father.

This will be my last
“official” newsletter as
Editor.
I have been your Newsletter Editor for over
4 years and it is time I stepped down and let
someone else take over. Denise Calvert will
be the incoming Newsletter Editor for the
2014/2015 term under Ted Adams. I will
assist Denise in the transition and give her as
much help as she wants.
It has been a privilege being your Newsletter
Editor. It was also an education for me. I had
never used the computer program, Microsoft
Publisher before taking over this position. I
learned as I went along. I changed the way
the newsletter looked and added a few
enhancements. I hope you liked how the
format of the newsletter and enjoyed the
articles, pictures and information.
Newsletter Editor
Lately. it has been a challenge trying to do the
newsletter when I go on trips. I often had to
work on the newsletter while on our trips,
which took away from the fun things I could
have been doing. So I have decided it is time for
me to retire as Editor.
In the 30+ years that Neal and I have been
members of the club, other than one or two
years, I have been in charge of something. For
the next couple of years I would like to retire
and let our newer members take over the
responsibility of the club.
I am looking forward coming to the club and
being able to just ENJOY. See you all at the
club.

Fred and Linda Frost
Were on a recent cruise from Boston to
Quebec City. They were in the Citadel in
Quebec City. Picture taken with the Hotel
Frontenac and their Cruise ship in the
background.
I recently spent three days in Las Vegas on an ALL-BOYS get together with some old friends. These are seven of my closest High School Friends. Including myself, two are attorneys, two are bankers,
two are engineers and one is a fitness guru for the stars and the other a financial consultant, with a seat on the NYSE. Following our High School Graduation in 1967 we spent a week at the Lake of the Ozarks playing cards, waterskiing and drinking beer. We did the same trip a year later in 1968 following our freshman year at College. More beer was drunk as I recall. Two of these guys I hadn’t seen for 30 years! I would like to tell you about our Vegas experience, but you know the rule!
I’ll buy you a drink at the club if you can match the eight persons in the 2014 photo with their 1968 photo!

10-2-2014 Greetings from Quechee, Vermont
We are in the heart of the Fall Colors (This statement is
debatable as New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts,
New York State also claim to have the best fall colors.
We think they are all winners).
We last wrote from Arcadia NP in Maine. We have
been up in the mountains of New Hampshire and
Vermont for the past several days, and mostly with out cell services. Our
days have continued to be just great. We have taken lots and lots of
pictures but we are sure that they could never truly do justice to being
here. It is simply beautiful. As we have traveled mile after mile, and taken
hikes in the woods daily, Denise has said several time as we are driving/
walking or just standing in the woods "THAT WE ARE ACTUALLY IN THE
PICTURE".
The towns and points of interest have been plentiful thus far and we are
planning to head for Hyde Park, New York in the morning. Then on to
Philadelphia before heading west to the left coast. My thought from our
experience (visiting 20 northern states so far, that includes California) is
that nature wise, our country is in really great shape. The people we have
met along the way have been equally excellent. All is good on the road.

10-12 Hello front St Louis, MO. OK, So the GIANTS Won last night (Oct 11th). Bumgarner
did a great job on the mound. It was an exciting game for us.
We met a few Giants fans before the game at the 360 de-
grease bar and restaurant across the street over looking
Busch Stadium. Pic attached. I can tell you that there was
about 46,990 very unhappy CARD Fans and about 10 very
happy GIANTS fans (+/-) a few. They all (47k) stayed until
the end thought..... Took about 90 minutes to get (15 miles)
back to our trailer. The 1st hour we were stuck in grid lock
outside the stadium. But we didn't mind, all was good.
Great bacon wrapped hot dogs w/ all the trimmings.
Just arriving in Kansas City this afternoon (Oct 12th). All in
good on the road. Go Giants.

Calvert’s adventure continues
10-17 Greetings from the road. Sun rise at Arches NP.... a picture can't possibly do it justice. We spent the day there. Tomorrow Canyon Land NP. Sunday, who knows, Denise keeps talking about back tracking to Kansas City. Something about a ball game there on Tuesday. Anyway, all is good on the road. Larry & Denise
