West Coast National ParkThe West Coast National Park is a 27 600 ha reserve, situated about 100km north of Cape Town. With a list of over 250 bird species recorded, the park holds two main attractions for both local and visiting birders. At least 45 of Southern Africa’s endemic or near-endemic species occur within its boundaries as well as huge numbers of migratory waders. The waders, sometimes numbering in excess of50 000 individuals, arrive at the southernmost point of their journey and spend the austral summer on the lagoon.
