PERSONALITYAlmost everyday we describe and assess the

personalities of the people around us. Whether werealize it or not, these daily musings on how and

why people behave as they do are similar to whatpersonality psychologists do. Personality has been

defined as "an individual's characteristic patterns of thought, emotion, and behavior, together with thepsychological mechanisms--hidden or not--behindthose patterns. personality is the sum total of our

outer personality and inner qualities. Outerpersonality helps us to be accepted , liked andloved, whereas inner qualities makes long lastingimpressions and relationships helping us succeed

and grow throughout our lives.

Personality is made up of several factors and is

judged by how an individual reacts to situations

and people and what impression are made uponpeople during and after the process of these

interaction. The key issue emerging here is that

personality development is a process and not aresult, it is a continuous ,growing , changing and

maturing.

DEFINE SWOT

SWOT analysis is a strategic planning methodused to evaluate

the Strengths, Weaknesses/Limitation,Opportunities, and Threats involved in

a persons life. It involves specifying theobjective of the persons life and identifying theinternal and external factors that are favorable

and unfavorable to achieve that objective.Setting the objective should be done after the

SWOT analysis has been performed. This wouldallow achievable goals or objectives to be set .

Page 7: Personality Development........Aparna

Identification of SWOTs is essential because

subsequent steps in the process of planning for

achievement of the selected objective may bederived from the SWOTs.

First, the decision makers have to determine

whether the objective is attainable, given theSWOTs. If the objective is NOT attainable a

different objective must be selected and the

process repeated.

1. The "open“ represents things that both I know

about myself, and that you know about me. For

example, I know my name, and so do you.

2. The "blind“ represents things that you know

about me, but that I am unaware of.

3. The "hidden“ represents things that I know

about myself, that you do not know.

4. The "unknown“ represents things that neither I

know about myself, nor you know about me.

Experience of the field activity

The field activity is that we had to visit any customerservice outlet that is either a shopping mall , super

market , a restaurant, travel agency etc. me and my

group decided to go to a shopping mall. We visited

caculo mall. In caculo mall we went around the

whole mall but we finally visited the Westside store .

Our experience of going in the mall was really very

good. I enjoyed a lot. We basically started with goingaround the Westside, saw all their dresses and other

accessories. After we finished having a round we

started observing the customer and staff member ,

We could see customer looking at the product,

staff explaining them about the product. It was a

lovely experience , we got to know what exactlythe customers wants , what are their needs, how

does the staff speak to the customers.

INTERPERSONEL SKILLS

Interpersonal skills include the habits, attitudes, manners,

appearance, and behaviors we use around other peoplewhich affect how we get along with other people. We

sometimes do not understand how importantinterpersonal skills really are. It's easy to laugh and make

jokes about people who obviously lack interpersonal skills, but sometimes we need to examine our own impressions

on others to better prepare for success in life as well as fora productive career.

The development of interpersonal skills begins early in lifeand is influenced by family, friends, and our observations

of the world around us. Television and movies alsoinfluence this area, but most of these characteristics are

passed along to us by our parents or guardians.

FACTORS TO BE KEPT IN MIND WHILE TALKING ON

THE TELEPHONE

Whenever you pick up the telephone, put a smile on

your face first. It will enhance your vocal quality and

you will sound pleasant and relaxed.

. Listen attentively to the person you are speaking

with

. Let other people talk! Make sure your caller has

completely finished speaking before responding.

Remember: sometimes they aren't done talking.. To create affinity with your callers, speed up or slow

down your speaking voice to better match theirs. They

won't realize why they feel comfortable, they just will.

Use your words for best results. Keep in mind you

can phrase anything positively, negatively or

neutrally. Phrasing your words positively will help

you get better results more easily.

Stop eating while you are talking on the phone.

See that there is no distraction around for e.g. adog barking or volume of the TV is very high.

How we deal and interact with other people greatly

affects our professional and personal lives. At work

interpersonal skills can get us jobs, gain promotionsand enhance our personal effectiveness. Our

behavior in the workplace is reflected in the way we

communicate with other people. In our personal

lives interpersonal skills can help in marriage and

with our social friendships.

Interpersonal skills can therefore help to make us

happier in our lives and more successful in ourcareers. Improving these skills builds confidence,

enhances our relationships with others and thereby

improves our personal effectiveness

We all have interpersonal skills in one degree or another. Wehave been learning them since birth. The process is often

subconscious as we learn how people react to what we sayand do. We subconsciously note how our actions are likely to

make them feel.

People with good interpersonal skills have learnt to identifywhich are the best ways of interacting with others in different

situations. As well as the subconscious process there is a

thoughtful analysis of one's style and the impact that style hasoneself as well as others.

Where necessary some personal development may berequired.

The good news is that interpersonal skills are easily developed.A little time and effort spent working and practising your

interpersonal skills will pay huge rewards in your professionaland personal lives.

FACTORS IMPORTANT FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OFONES PERSONALITY.

Why is it that we think we don’t have to continue

our self development once we have finished

our education? Maybe it is because we equatelearning and development with the educational

institutions that we have spent so much time induring our early years. Of course, we continue

to develop throughout our lives, and continue togain new skills and attributes throughout our

working lives and our lives as partners, parents, grandparents, and our involvement with our

communities.
