Tracking Sheet The aim of this unit is to enable a learner to select a project which is relevant to their personal interests and then carry out the project as an individual. Project management skills should be developed by the learner as they plan, carry out and review the project they have selected. Examples could include projects related to music, gardening, IT etc.

The aim of this unit is to enable you to select a project which is relevant to your personal interests and then carry out the project as an individual. You will develop your project management skills as you plan, carry out and review your project. Here are some examples of topics that you could use for your project:

1. SELECTING YOUR PROJECT The first step is to decide what topic your project is going to be about. Make sure you pick something that is of interest to you as you will be more likely to enjoy the project and will be more motivated to do a good job! Choose a broad topic area and then try to narrow it down a little by listing a few ideas. For example, from the ideas on p.3 you might choose ARTS & MUSIC and then break that down to a specific type of music or even a specific artist.

1.1 STATE YOUR PROJECT This is where you tell us what you have decided your project is going to be about. Try and think of a title that describes exactly what you are going to do! For example, you might choose to focus your project on Stormzy and specifically his headline performance at Glastonbury, so your title might be “Stormzy Headlines Glastonbury” My project title is:

1.1 OUTLINE THE PROJECT AND ITS AIMS This is where you tell us what your overall intention for your project is, and what it will cover. It is the reason why you are doing the research and tells us what you hope to achieve by completing your project. For example, your title is “Stormzy Headlines Glastonbury” and one of your aims is: To explain why Stormzy’s Glastonbury performance was such a historic and iconic show. Try and outline at least 3 aims for your project. The aims of my project are:

1.2 WHY DID YOU CHOOSE YOUR PROJECT? This is where you tell us why you chose your project. It might be because you enjoy the topic, or because you wanted to know more about a topic. For example, your project might be “Stormzy Headlines Glastonbury”, and you might have chosen it because Stormzy is your favourite artist, or because you want to research why it was so talked about. I chose my project because:

1.3 IDENTIFY PERSONAL LEARNING OBJECTIVES FOR YOUR PROJECT This is where you tell us what you want to achieve by completing your project. It will be based on what skills or knowledge you hope to develop and tells us what you, personally, hope to achieve by completing your project. For example, you might want to focus on a specific skill, like using the internet to research a topic or developing your ICT & Presentation skills. You might focus on learning something new and improving your knowledge about your topic. Or you might focus on broader theme, like, developing my confidence. My personal learning objectives are: 1.

2. PLANNING YOUR PROJECT Now that you have decided on your title, aim & personal learning objective you can start to work out your plan! This stage of your project is important as it starts to break down your project into individual tasks and helps you to structure your activities to make sure everything gets done. This is a key part of this unit as you will start to develop your project management skills. Think about all the ideas that you have had so far and what you will need to do to make sure you meet your aim. For example, you will probably need to do some internet research, you might want to print some information out, you might need to download a video clip and then you will need to decide how you are going to present the information. Also think about what order you will complete tasks in so that you can create a timeline for your project.

3. CARRYING OUT YOUR PROJECT Now that you have listed all of the tasks that you need to complete to carry out your project it is time for ACTION! Don’t forget to tick things off on your Task List as you complete them as this helps you to stay focussed and it shows you your progress as you work through things step-by-step.

You can include other types of evidence, for example, a Powerpoint Presentation, a Poster or video clip and some of your research will also be useful additional, supporting evidence.

4. REVIEWING YOUR PROJECT

4.1 OUTLINE WHETHER THE PROJECT AIMS AND PERSONAL LEARNING OBJECTIVES WERE MET Take a look at your original project aims and personal objectives. Did your project meet these? How? What did you learn? For example, your project aim might have been to learn more about Glastonbury festival, and you may have met that aim by researching the history of the festival. You may have completed this research on the internet, therefore if your personal objective was to improve your IT skills, you’ve met it! Examples of how my project met my aims & learning objectives are:

4.2 GIVE EXAMPLES OF WHAT WENT WELL WITH YOUR PROJECT This is where you reflect on what you did to complete your project. Try and think of all the things that you did and make a list of all the things that went well. This is an important part of the project management process as it is what enables you to celebrate your successes and achievements. For example, you might have really enjoyed the internet research, you might have learnt some new things and you might be really pleased with the PowerPoint presentation that you made. The things that went well with my project are:

4.3 GIVE EXAMPLES OF WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN IMRPOVED AND HOW This is where you reflect on what you did to complete your project. Try and think of all the things that you did and now make a list of all the things that perhaps didn’t go as well as you planned or hoped and what you would do to improve your project. This is an important part of the project management process as it is where you identify what you have learnt and how that will change what you do in future to improve. For example, you might not have been very pleased with the Powerpoint presentation that you made and so next time you would improve that by learning more about how to use Powerpoint or you could even think of a more effective way to present your information. What could be improved, and how:

4.4 WHAT SKILLS HAVE YOU DEVELOPED BY COMPLETING THE PROJECT? This is where you reflect on the skills that you have used and developed to complete your project. Think about the different tasks you have carried out, and what you have done to meet your project aims. The skills I have developed are:
