Job Description

JOB TITLE: Children and Young People Project Worker

SALARY: £20,661 - £23,398 (22 – 26 NJC scale)

RESPONSIBLE TO: Project Manager

RESPONSIBLE FOR: Volunteers

HOURS: (full and part-time positions available)

Flexible working patterns will be required to meet the needs of the project and will include evening and weekend work. Staff may be required to work in various locations. Annual leave and time off in lieu to be taken with the prior agreement of the Project Manager.

OVERALL OBJECTIVESTo provide training and awareness sessions within schools and colleges to both children, young people and teachers.

To develop and deliver support services children and young people who have experienced domestic abuse in order to ensure their safety and emotional well-being.

To operate in accordance with best practice and within the policies and procedures of IDAS.

PARTICULAR TASKS OF THE POSTHOLDER

Training and AwarenessTo work in schools to provide training and awareness sessions to teachers, young people and children.

To help develop and deliver healthy relationships workshops and sessions to young people.

To provide advice and guidance to teachers and safeguarding leads.

To liaise with external agencies to increase awareness of the needs of children and young people affected by domestic abuse.

Support of Children / Young PeopleTo work with the Project Manager to ensure that services are set up to meet the needs of children and young people.

To assess the needs of children and young people on an individual basis in relation to their experiences of domestic abuse and provide appropriate individual support.

To work with children and young people to develop their confidence, self-esteem and practical skills.

To work with children and young people to help minimise their harmful behaviours and to challenge negative perceptions.

To carry out safety planning with children and young people living with domestic abuse.

To work with local agencies to provide services to meet the needs of children living with or surviving domestic abuse.

To work in conjunction with outreach workers to assess the whole family and to provide appropriate support to adult victims and their children.

To act as an advocate for children, attending school, court and child protection case conferences where required.

To assess children’s needs and make referrals to external agencies where appropriate.

To work closely with the Young Ambassador Coordinator particularly in relation to any peer support groups or in support of the Young Ambassadors Scheme.

To maintain an awareness of safeguarding issues and take appropriate action, including making referrals to Social Services.

Communication To represent IDAS at appropriate meetings and fora.

To attend and participate positively in team meetings supervision and annual appraisals.

AdministrationTo maintain appropriate records relating to referrals and support carried out with children.

To keep clear records relating to child protection matters.

To ensure that the project is monitored and evaluated and to provide reports to the Project Manager.

OtherTo participate in fundraising activities.

To keep up-to-date with national and local government decisions, relevant legislation and policy developments in relation to children.

To attend training appropriate to IDAS in consultation with the Project Manager.

To undertake all other reasonable tasks requested by the management team.

To provide support and guidance to volunteers working within the project.
