BackgroundSpin transfer torque (STT) oscillator with perpendicularly magnetized electrodes offers much superior performance characteristics comparing to in-plane STT oscillators.This Work (Scientific and Technological Interests)We have fabricated a STT device with perpendicularly magnetized electrodes made of Co/Pt multilayer and demonstrated STT driven magnetization switching. We are in the process of integrating a in-plane GMR reader with the perpendicular STT oscillator so that oscillation can be directly detected as voltage signal.
