Ÿ Faculty of Social Sciences is the development of Faculty of Social Sciences Education, Institute of Teacher Training and Education or IKIP Yogyakarta.
Ÿ 22 May 1963 -Institute of Teacher Training and Education known as IKIP Yogyakarta was established.Ÿ 21 May 1964- Minister of Higher Education and Science inaugurated the Faculty of Teacher Training
of Social Sciences (FKIS)Ÿ 4 September 1965- FKPS changed into Faculty of Social Sciences Teacher TrainingŸ 7 September 1982 - FKIS of IKIP Yogyakarta changed into the Faculty of Social Sciences Education
(FPIPS).Ÿ 4 Augusts 1999- IKIP Yogyakarta developed into Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) Ÿ 2006- Faculty of Social Sciences (FIS) changed into Faculty of Social Sciences and Economics (FISE) .Ÿ 2011- FISE turned intol FIS Ÿ 14 September 1965 was stipulated as the anniversary of FIS by the senat of FIS UNY

History
Civic Education Study Program is implemented based on the Ministerial Decree of Higher Education and Science No. 55 of 1963 under the name Civics-Law Study Program as part of the Teaching Faculty of Social Sciences. In the New Order 1970, the Civics-Law Study Program was renamed the Moral Education of Pancasila. In 1980, it turned into Moral Education and Citizenship. Then, it changed into Pancasila and Civic Education Study Program in 1995. In 2006, it turned to the Department of Civic and Legal Education, after obtaining the approval from the Directorate General of Higher Education, Ministry of National RI No.35 / D10 / 2006 dated March 15, 2006.

Geography Education Study Program is one of the study programs at Faculty of Social Sciences Yogyakarata State University, which has been established since September 14, 1965. Formerly, it was an earth science study program at Teaching Faculty of Social Sciences, Institute of Teacher Training Yogyakarta (locally abbreviated as FKIS IKIP Yogyakarta). This program changed into Geography Education study program, Faculty of Social Sciences Education in 1978. Then, it developed into a Geography Education study program, Faculty of Social Sciences in 1999. After that, it transformed into Geography Education study program Faculty of Social Sciences and Economics in 2006, and it became Geography Education study program Faculty of Social Sciences in 2011.

History
History Study Program is one of the study programs under the Department of History Education. Its presence in a leading teacher training institutions (locally abbreviated as LPTK) is due to an extension of mandate to conduct non-educational study programs. With regard to this, Department of History Education proposed to run the study program of History. History Study Program was establised based on Letter of Establishment No. 141 / DIKTI.Kep / 2000 dated May 12, 2000. Seven years later, National Acreditation Board issued the accreditation of the study program with a grade of B as stated in SK-BAN-PT No.011 / BAN-PT / Ak-X / S1 / V / 2007. In the next accreditation, History study program got a grade of A as written in SK BAN-PT No.025 / BAN-PT / Ak-X / VIII / 2012. The accreditation grade of A may ensure that the graduates from this study program can compete to get a job in various agencies both government and private.

Description
Social Sciences Education study program was established based on the Decree of National Education Minister No. 1915 / D / T / 2007. This study program began to receive undergraduate students in 2008. According to the National Education System No. 20 of 2003, teachers from primary to senior secondary education must have a qualication of Strata 1 Social Sciences Education which is relevant to their eld.The curriculum of 2013 requires teachers to be able to teach Social Sciences integratedly and contextually. Therefore, Social Sciences Education at Faculty of Social Sciences YSU is expected to produce prospective Social Sciences teachers who are professional in their elds.

Based on the letter of the Director General of Higher Education No. 1259 / D / T / 97 dated 29 May 1997 concerning the Expansion of Mandate, Yogyakarta State University (YSU) may run non-educational study programs. With regard to this, Administrative Education study program, Faculty of Social Sciences and Economics YSU established a non-education study program i.e. Public Administration Study Program. The main supporting capacity includes the lecturers of Ofce Administration Education Study Program that has been running for a long time. The study program of Public Administration was established based on the letter of Director General of Higher Education No. 2107 / D / T / 2007 dated August 2, 2007 on the Permit of Implementing Public Administration Study Program.

Facilities & Services
To support the teaching and learning process, Faculty of Social Sciences YSU provides some laboratories such as Micro Teaching, Internet, History, Geography, Integrated Social Sciences, Legal and Civic Education, and Civic Education Corner (CEC).
1. LaboratoriesThe library in FSS provides complete collections of books, journals, and thesis. Also, it provides comfortable reading space for the students.

7. ScholarshipFaculty of Social Sciences provides scholarships to poor and clever students such as PPA, BBM, and Bidik Misi.

Classrooms are equipped with LCD projector, viewer, and Air Conditioner (AC) which can make the students feel comfortable to join the teaching learning process.
3. Environment The environment surrounding FSS is very conducive for the students to learn since there are many green trees. Moreover, FSS provides hot spot area which enable the students to access the internet easily.
Students are facilitated with a student center building for several a c t i v i t i e s s u c h a s m e e t i n g , discussion, managing academic actitivities and etc.
