Concrete ribs were held together by steel cables and special type of Glue

Over 1 million ceramic tiles has been used on roof.

Pre-moulded plates

The use of tiles in Islamic architecture was an important influence on Utzon at the Sydney Opera House. The Friday Mosque in Isfahan, Iran, also influenced Utzon’s early designs for the Major Hall.

MATERIALS

• Made of reinforced concrete• Façade of tinted glass with steel frame• Interior is made of pink granite extracted

from Tarana, timber and plywood from NSW.

• The covers of the theatre are covered with 1.056 million glossy white and cream tiles.
