Get StartedWhen you start your

computer, the desktop, is the first window that appears.◦ It displays program and

file icons for the programs you use most frequently

The taskbar, located at the bottom of the desktop, displays the Start button, as well as open documents and programs

Title bar and Window controlsThe title bar, located at the top of the

program window◦Displays the document’s name, followed by

the program’s name◦ Includes window control buttons, which

control the program window behaves Minimize-reduces the window to a button on the

taskbar Restore-reduces the size of the window Maximize-replaces the restore button after you

click the Restore down button and increases the window size to fill the screen

Close-closes the program

Shortcut Menu and Mini ToolbarShortcut menu – provides a

quick way to display commands you need while working

Mini toolbar – displays buttons you can use to quickly change the look of text or data

Status barStatus bar, located at the

bottom of the program window◦Contains information about the file

on which you are working, View shortcut buttons and Zoom control

◦Can customize the status bar to display options

View Buttons and ZoomView shortcut buttons enable you

to view your file in different waysThe Zoom feature allows you to

get a close-up view of your document or see more of the page at a reduced size

ScreenTipsSmall windows that display

descriptive information when you rest the mouse pointer on a command or control

An enhanced ScreenTip, is a larger window that displays more descriptive text.
