Cummins ISX12 G
Cummins natural gas products are known
for excellent torque, high fuel efficiency and
uncompromising performance. They are noticeably
quieter than diesel engines throughout the
operating range and 50% quieter at idle. Using
many of the same parts, they are built on the
rugged, reliable design of the Cummins diesel
engine platforms. For the operator, this brings
clean, reliable and cost-effective power for all their
transportation needs.
Cummins ISX12 G is the latest addition to the natural
gas range, available for use in a variety of alternative
fuel applications, including tractor units and rigid
trucks. With a displacement of 11.9 litres, power ratings
up to 400 PS (298 kW) and a 1966 Nm peak torque,
the ISX12 G is the natural choice for demanding gas
powered applications at EPA 2013 and Euro 6 emissions.
Featuring proven stoichiometric cooled Exhaust Gas
Recirculation (EGR) combustion technology, spark
ignition and simple exhaust aftertreatment, the ISX12 G
delivers strong pulling power and heavy-duty durability
and performance that customers can depend on.
The cooled-EGR system takes a measured quantity of
exhaust gas and passes it through a cooler to reduce
temperatures before mixing it with fuel and the incoming
air charge to the cylinder. This lowers combustion
temperatures and knock tendency, reducing engine out
emissions and noise.
Stoichiometric combustion is the ideal combustion
process where all fuel and oxygen is completely
consumed. This means that no unburned fuel
or oxygen exits through the exhaust. Combined
with cooled EGR it improves power density and fuel
economy to create a high performance natural gas
engine. It also enables the use of simpler, lower cost
exhaust aftertreatment systems.
The ISX12 G is a dedicated natural gas engine, based
on the Cummins ISX12 diesel engine. It operates on
100 percent clean burning low cost natural gas. The
ISX12 G is manufactured on the same assembly line
as the Cummins diesel engines and it shares many
components and parts with Cummins ISX Series
diesels, inheriting their renowned power and durability.
The clean ISX12 G meets the ultra-low emissions of
EPA2013 and is easily capable of Euro 6.
Perfectly Adapted
Cooled-EGR Combustion Technology – with a
pedigree of over 1 million engines to date, Cummins
cooled EGR technology is proven in a wide range of
installations. The use of cooled EGR in combination
with stoichiometric combustion improves power
density and fuel economy versus lean-burn
or traditional stoichiometric natural gas engines.
Maintenance-Free Aftertreatment – Three-Way
Catalysts (3WCs) are effective, simple devices,
packaged as part of the muffler, that provide
consistent emissions control performance and are
maintenance-free. The ISX12 G will not require a
Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) or Selective Catalytic
Reduction (SCR) system.
Fully Integrated Electronic Controls – a single higher-
capacity electronic Control Module (ECM) controls
everything from air intake to exhaust aftertreatment
for peak performance and near-zero emissions. It has
a full interface capability to Cummins INSITE and
diagnostic service tools.

Compact and powerful, the ISX12 G has plenty of

economy. Based on the ISX12, it shares many major
components with the ISX15, so it’s strong enough to

the vehicle in either compressed (CNG) or liquefied
(LNG) form. The ISX12 G can also operate on
renewable natural gas or biomethane that meets
