Decision Makers is a new initiative launched by WTM, it draws upon the extensive connections of Reed Travel Exhibitions and the huge reach of its marquee event, World Travel Market to provide a weekly video series featuring senior executives from the industry discussing key trends and challenges. A total of 16 key travel experts were interviewed for this series, including me. The interview which was conducted by Simon Press, Director of WTM highlights key trends and challenges for our industry.

HAPPENINGS AT KDM

GLOBAL HR SYSTEM, WORKDAY LAUNCHED

The new Global HR system called Workday was launched on Monday 5th November 2012 and will be available for all employees at Kuoni. Workday is a modern, intuitive, user-friendly, online employee information and people management tool that spans all of Kuoni's organisation and structure down to every specialist brand or office. Workday is all online and doesn't require any specific installation to be used. It also has apps for mobile devices available. Workday will give everyone more visibility on their personal details and a great deal more control of their own objectives and annual Performance Reviews in an easy-to-use environment. In addition, Workday also serves as a directory to find colleagues' contact and organisational details.

DIWALI FOR A CAUSE

This year Diwali was celebrated with a difference at Gurgaon office on November 12, 2012 with a theme called, 'Goodies Shopping Spree.' The day started off with a Diwali Puja. Each floor participated as a team and set up kiosks of goodies to sell to other employees. The money collected was raised as a donation to Literacy India. The floors managed to raise a total of Rs. 39805 for Literacy India.

Each floor did a magnificent job, with their individual contribution of

2 floor - Rs. 8810 3 floor - Rs. 24495 4 floor - Rs. 6500 Congratulations to everybody for their contribution and dedication to the cause.

Lunch was also organised for the employees on the occasion of Diwali.

CORPORATE RESPONSIBILITY NETWORK MEET

A Kuoni CR Network Meet took place from 12th -13th November 2012 in Lucerne to understand and implementation the group wide CR strategy. KDM India was represented by DGM Marketing Communication & CSR. The main focus of the meet was to find a common platform across the Kuoni Group to anchor Corporate Responsibility in business processes, exchange ideas and also discuss key challenges and opportunities that exist at present.

EXPLORE INDIA AUTUMN-WINTER 2012/2013 LAUNCHED

The India edition of the Explore Autumn –winter 2012/2013 brochure was launched at WTM, London. The products featured cover out of the ordinary tours for everyone, ranging from a Sketching Tour of Mehrauli to Night Photography of Delhi, Sailing on the Chambal River to the Untouched Ravlas of Rajasthan, Rituals of Death And Rebirth and much more.

World Travel Mart is a leading global event for the travel industry which takes place every year in London. Sita participated once again this year with a 30sqm booth from 5th -8th November, 2012. The theme of the booth remained the same as last year, chalk white but with a prominent image of India.

DISTANT FRONTIERS AT EIBTM

EIBTM is the leading global event for the meetings and events industry, held in the vibrant business and tourism destination of Barcelona. The event delivers three days of focused access to a dynamic business environment, thought provoking professional education and business networks for Exhibitors, Hosted Buyers and Trade Visitors.

Distant Frontiers participated at EIBTM once again this year with a 14 sqm booth from 27th – 29th November 2012. The design of the booth remains constant to build a recall of the brand with the distinctive colourful door image of Distant Frontiers. The company was represented by Pankaj Patpatia James.

BALES TEAM AT VIRGIN HOLIDAYS PARTY

The Virgin Holidays Annual Award function was held at Batter Sea Park in London a day before WTM. Lovleen Sagar, Business Head was also a part of the celebration along with the Bales team. The attendees could choose between the two pre-set themes for the evening, Bollywood or Chinese. By the looks of it, there were a lot of Bollywood divas at the function!

KDM INDIA RECEIVES CNBC AWAAZ TRAVEL AWARD 2012

The company has received the CNBC AWAAZ Travel Award 2012. These awards aim to recognise and honour stellar organisations and individuals who are championing, driving and supporting tourism in India.

KDM India has been honoured with the CNBC AWAAZ Travel Award 2012 in the category of Best Inbound Tour Operator. Last year the company received the award in the category of 'Innovative Work in Marketing India as Travel and Tourism Destination.’

The CNBC AWAAZ Awards are based on an objective, robust and comprehensive study conducted by CNBC AWAAZ with over 10,000 responses, voting for their choice of travel services and destinations. Powered by an esteemed jury and supported by Incredible India, these awards put into perspective the emerging trends in India's tourism.

The award was presented by Mr. Chiranjeevi Konidala, Minister of State for Tourism, at a function held in Kashmir on 20 November, 2012. Vineet Mahendru, Head of KTO, Procurement, Logistics North, Nepal & Bhutan received the award on behalf of the Company.

NANDO'S

Nando's has recently opened in Delhi in Vasant Kunj. The restaurant is famous around the world for its flame-grilled Peri-Peri Chicken which has a unique spicy flavour to it. Although there is limited choice for vegetarians, there is ample choice for chicken lovers from Chicken Livers, Portuguese Roll, Half Peri Peri Chicken (mild) and Half Peri Peri Chicken (hot).

The name Nando's comes from Fernando, the name of one of the founders of the chain - Fernando Duarte. He and a friend, Robert Brozin, bought a restaurant called Chickenland in Rosettenville, near Johannesburg in 1987. This became the first Nando's restaurant, which incorporated influences by former Portuguese colonists from Mozambique.
