50% of them ranked in the first quartile of journals
8 Research vessels, 3 of 1000 GRT, 5 of 30-200 GRT,
other small vessels, from 5 to 10 m in length and a
Remote Operated Vehicle (ROV) able to dive
to depths down to 2000 meters
IEO was created in 1914 and has the headquarters in Madrid,
8 Oceanographic Centers, 4 marine culture plants, and
13 tide-recording stations distributed along the Spanish coastline.

SUMARIZING
The IEO through its research work contributes to
knowledge of the oceans and their resources working in
collaboration with public or private partner organizations.
IEO also transfers knowledge through its expert advice
to Decision Makers with special attention to questions
related with human and climate change impact
on marine ecosystems.
IEO represents the Spanish Government before
international oceanographic organizations and
commissions.
IEO operates tools for observation, experimentation and
monitoring, manage oceanographic databases and their
research fleet and other facilities. These facilities are
available to the scientific communities, as well as within
private or public research partnerships.

Thanks for your attention
IEO works in network, mainly on large international programmes, with the
scientific community, but also with private partners and is working to
increase these collaborative activities.
