description

The Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market (OHIM) recently released a report on European Citizens and Intellectual Property: Perception, Awareness and Behaviour. This report aims to assess citizens’ perceptions of IP. It complements a previous report by the Office for Harmonisation in the Internal Market, through the European Observatory on infringements of Intellectual Property and the European Patent Office “Intellectual Property Rights intensive industries: contribution to economic performance and employment in the EU”, which identified that IP-intensive industries contributed 39% of GDP in the EU and 26% of employment, creating over 77 million European jobs. Intellectual property rights are identified as influential for the European Union’s future growth policies, prosperity and innovation capacity. In order for IP rights to be properly respected and acknowledged, the positive aspects of intellectual property rights must be accurately communicated to the EU community. The development of an effective and targeted awareness communication strategy requires the analyses of current perceptions and behaviours towards IP among EU citizens. Let’s take a look at current attitudes towards IP…
