Pepin County 4-H Teen Leaders send 3rd

Shipment to U.S. Platoon in Iraq

In support of our military,

the Pepin County 4-H Teen

Leaders have been

sponsoring an “Adopt A

Platoon” drive. The platoon

we have adopted consists of

30 paratroopers from the

Army’s 82nd Airborne

Division, 2nd

Brigade Combat

Team, currently deployed in

Iraq. We have a special

interest in this specific

platoon because one of the

soldiers is a Pepin County

4-H alumni. Our group has

sent 3 shipments of boxes already and plan to ship 2-3 more in the next few months.

The Pepin School and Durand-Arkansaw Jr./Sr. High School are participating in this

campaign by collecting select product donations from their students and the general

public to be sent to the soldiers. We have received many donations but are still seeking

more for the coming months. Monetary donations will be used to assist in our shipping

costs, with any surplus applied to the purchase of other useful items to be sent directly to

the platoon. Your company logo or individual

name will be included in every box sent to the

platoon. All donations are tax deductible. Please

drop off or mail your donations to the UW-

Extension Office, Attn: Pepin County 4-H Teen

Leaders, 740 7th

Ave. W., PO Box 39, Durand, WI,

54736.

We believe our care packages will enhance the

morale and well-being of the platoon. These men

and women are dedicating their lives to

protecting our freedoms. It's not enough to

remember these sacrifices in thought alone. Let's

remember them by our deeds! Thank you in

advance for your recognition of the important

contributions our troops make to society and

helping this 4-H Teen Leader campaign.

The Lima and Lassies 4-H The Lima Lads and Lassies 4-H club held their monthly meet-ing at the city hall on April 23rd. We started our meeting with saying the pledges and the treasurer's report. Our meeting date for May was changed to the 13th. We will be helping to mulch around items in the Veteran's Memorial Park. In June our club will be providing games at the Pepin County Dairy Breakfast. Members signed up for time slots that they can monitor the games. Sign up for 4-H camp is over and Katie Bignell is the only one at-tending camp this year. Stephanie Brantner and Lauren Hendel will be camp counselors. Instead of being at the club meeting today they are at camp counselor training with Marie Ritscher in Pepin. 4-H Camp Kinnissippewa is located at Camp Kiwanis at Marine on St. Croix. At our last meeting we talked about doing a canoe ride down the Chippewa River so an update on information was given about the cost, time frame and drop locations for the ride. We had more discussions about the fair dates, project drop times, judging and work-ing in the dairy wagon. After all business was taken care of, Marsha and Mary were the Family In Charge for this meeting so Marsha presented the project that the kids were go-ing to work on. It was a bunny made from a dum dum sucker, paper, cotton ball and ribbon. They all turned out very cute. After the project we had lunch and time to visit with each other.

The club members with their completed bunny pro-jects.

Chippewa 4-H Club—April minutes

Vice President, Erin Seifert called the meeting to order. We recited our pledges

and Secretary, Morgan Moline took attendance and gave the treasure’s report. We have

a balance of $4,944.92. Then we talked of old minutes. Our camp registration was due

April 3rd. We then had to think of ideas for our fair booth, and if we had any we are to

email them to Gwen Prom.

New business was to think about having our own food booth during the fair as a

possible fundraiser. To only have on Saturday. Our club decided not to have one since

we already have a cookie sale and wreath sale as fundraisers. Next, we discussed if

families wanted to do stream monitors for 7 months, from April to October, for the Pep-

in County Land Conservation Department. This could be divided amongst more than

one family. Our decision had to be made this month. We have three families who are

interested in participating. They are the Moline’s, Pesic’s, and Ingli’s. We also reminded

our members to check the Pepin Pacer for upcoming events and opportunities.

The pacer also has clothing patterns for $1 each for upcoming fair projects. Our

club received a thank you letter from the Pepin Area Schools for donating $100 for new

playground equipment. Our next meeting is on May 7th. And our host families are the

Seiferts and Arens. The activity is to be determined. We had a cat demonstration

speech by Makenna Moline and a conservation speech by Jackson Reisgraf. Both did an

amazing job. Today’s activity was to clean up the Laura Park in Pepin. Sydney Seifert

motioned to adjourn the meeting and it was seconded by Jenna Auth.
