Defining Support for the PeopleSoft Environment Management Plug-in

Oracle’s Enterprise Manager for PeopleSoft allows you to use the Oracle Enterprise Manager to monitor and manage your PeopleSoft servers from a centralized administrative interface.

The Enterprise Manager for PeopleSoft enables you to discover, monitor, and manage PeopleSoft system components, including application server domains, Process Scheduler domains, search server domains, PIA installations, and use Process Monitor on all of the platforms supported by PeopleSoft applications.

The Enterprise Manager for PeopleSoft is compatible with at least Oracle PeopleTools 8.52. The most current version of the Enterprise Manager for PeopleSoft can monitor and administer systems running previous PeopleTools releases, down to PeopleTools 8.52. Earlier versions of the Enterprise Manager for PeopleSoft cannot be used to monitor and administer later releases. For example, the Enterprise Manager for PeopleSoft provided for PeopleTools 8.54 cannot be used to monitor and manage PeopleTools servers running PeopleTools 8.55, 8.56, and so on.

Considering User IDs for Installation

When setting up Oracle’s Enterprise Manager for PeopleSoft, you install various elements of the system on different machines, with some of the elements belonging to the Oracle Environment Management product and some belonging to the Enterprise PeopleTools product.

Before performing these installation tasks, take a moment to consider the user IDs that you will use. Beginning with Oracle PeopleTools 8.50, PS_HOME can be configured to be read-only for additional security. In this configuration, the configuration files and other ’writable’ files, like log files, are stored in a separate location, referred to as the PS_CFG_HOME. Keeping track of which users has write access or not and where output files need to be sent is essential.

The following table provides some sample scenarios of how user IDs can be managed based on Enterprise Manager for PeopleSoft releases.

The following table provides some sample scenarios of how user IDs can be managed based on PeopleSoft Environment Management Plug-in releases.

Note. In pre-PeopleTools 8.50 releases, user IDs needed to belong to the same primary group. In the

current release of PeopleSoft Environment Management Plug-in, this is not a restriction.

Installing PeopleSoft Products

If you are setting up the Enterprise Manager for PeopleSoft, it is assumed that you already have an installed PeopleSoft system. If not, you need to first install Oracle PeopleTools and applicable PeopleSoft applications. Refer to the PeopleTools and PeopleSoft application installation guides for detailed steps, if needed.

The installed PeopleSoft databases and servers will become the targets you manage using Oracle Enterprise Manager and the PeopleSoft Enterprise Manager Plug-in.

Note. Though the Oracle Management Repository itself runs an Oracle database that stores

information about the managed targets, there is no restriction on which PeopleSoft database platforms

are supported as targets. All databases supported by PeopleTools are supported by the Enterprise

Manager for PeopleSoft.

the appropriate host.

This section provides an overview and covers:

• Installing the Enterprise Manager for PeopleSoft on the OMS and Agent.

• Uninstalling the Enterprise Manager for PeopleSoft from the OMS and Agent.

Installations Performed by the Same User on Management Agent

The recommended way to install the Management Agent for Windows environments is to have the same operating system user install both the Management Agent and the PeopleSoft PS_HOME directories.

This eliminates any potential issues involving:

Working with Enterprise Manager User Accounts

This section discusses:

• Using the SYSMAN Super Administrator Account.

• Creating Additional Super Administrator Accounts.

• Creating Administrator Accounts for PeopleSoft Targets.

• Managing User Accounts on UNIX.

• Ensuring Oracle EMAgent Privileges on Windows Hosts.

Using the SYSMAN Super Administrator Account

The Enterprise Manager Cloud Control Console provides support for creating and managing Enterprise Manager Administrator accounts. The Enterprise Manager Administrators you create and manage in the Enterprise Manager Grid Control Console are granted privileges to log in to the Enterprise Manager Grid Control Console and to manage specific target types and to perform specific management tasks.

During installation, these tasks are performed automatically:

• A default Super Administrator SYSMAN account is created with the password you specified.

• The SYSMAN account is automatically configured to receive email notifications, if you provided the

email notification settings at installation time.

Note. Email notifications are set up with default Notification Rules for the critical conditions.

After installation, you can immediately log in to the Enterprise Manager Grid Control Console with the SYSMAN user name and your password to perform management tasks. The next step is to create a new Super Administrator account to monitor and manage the PeopleSoft targets.

Note. The SYSMAN account owns the database schema containing the Management Repository and

should not be used after the initial log in.

To access Enterprise Manager Grid Control, use one of the following URLs to log in to the Grid Control Console:

https://<Oracle Management Service_hostname>.<domain>:<port>/em

For example:

https://machine_host.bigcompany.com:1159/em

Setting Up EMAgent and PeopleSoft for Multi-user Installations

The user installing EMAgent must be a member of the dba group. The implementation of the PeopleSoft Plug-in for Enterprise Manager requires you to create and maintain separate EMAgent and PeopleSoft users for UNIX. The users do not need to belong to the same primary group (gid).

The following table provides a sample framework illustrating how you can manage user accounts for

UNIX.

User Primary Group Secondary Group Description

emagent dba psft Installs the EMAgent.

psoft psft dba Installs PeopleSoft.

psoftn psft dba Installs n additional PeopleSoft installations.

Setting Up EMAgent and PeopleSoft for Secure PS_HOME

In a secure PS_HOME environment, where PS_HOME and PS_CFG_HOME are decoupled, the PeopleSoft application can be installed by one user and the server domains can be created by another user.

This involves three or more UNIX users and two groups. The following table provides a sample

framework.

User Primary Group Secondary Group Description

emagent dba psft Installs the EMAgent.

psoft psft dba Installs PeopleSoft.

psoftsrvr psft dba Installs PeopleSoft server domains, such as application server, Process Scheduler server, and search server.

Setting Up sudo Access

Sudo access can be useful for performing administrative tasks like Start, Stop, and Configure for PeopleSoft targets with a single host user. This host user can be set up to have all privileges for PeopleSoft users.

To set up sudo access:

1. Create a new user (or set up the emagent user) to have sudo access for the psoft user.

2. For example, create user psoftsudo assigned to psft primary group and dba secondary group.

3. Verify if sudo is installed on the UNIX server.

Execute following command:

$> which sudo

Install sudo if necessary.

4. Add user entries to the sudoers file.

Use this syntax:

<User1> ALL = (<User2>/<User3>) ALL

For example:

emagent ALL = (psoft) ALL

or

psoftsudo ALL = (psoft) ALL

5. Verify if sudo access has been granted for the user.

a. Start telnet with the emagent user.

b. Submit the following command:

$> sudo -u psoft id

c. Provide the user password when prompted.

d. Verify the <id> output of the psoft user.

Note. Add this variable in addition to the default env_keep variable, Defaults env_keep = "EMHOME

JAVA_HOME PLUGIN_ROOT EMDROOT DISC_ROOT IS_PS_PLT LIBPATH LD_LIBRARY_PATH

SHLIB_PATH"

Setting Up Power Broker Access

A Power Broker account can be set up and accessed using the same procedure as setting up sudo access.

Ensuring Oracle EMAgent Privileges on Windows Hosts

Confirm that the Oracle EMAgent user has the appropriate access rights on Windows.

To configure the Oracle EMAgent user on Windows hosts:

1. Ensure that EMAgent is added to the Administrators Group.

2. Ensure that EMAgent has these options as part of the local policy (Control Panel, Administrative Tools,

Local Security Policy, Local Policies, User Rights Assignment):

• Act as part of the operating system.

• Adjust memory quotas for a process.

• Log on as batch job.

• Replace a process level token.

Upgrading PeopleSoft Environment Management 11g to PeopleSoft Environment Management 12c

You can upgrade Oracle’s Enterprise Manager for PeopleSoft 11g (certified with PSFT Plug-in

8.51.0.1.0 & 8.52.0.1.0) to EM 12c without losing any metric and configuration information. The targets

that are discovered and monitored through 11g will be retained after upgrading to 12c.You can upgrade to EM12c using any one of these 3 approaches,

• 1-System Upgrade

• 2-System Upgrade

• 1-System Upgrade with different host

For more information about upgrading to EM 12c refer to the Upgrade Guide here, http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E24628_01/nav/portal_booklist.htm.

Post- Upgrade Operations for PeopleSoft Plug-in

1. Set up the preferred credential for each host target on which the targets are monitored. 2. From the EM console, setup the preferred credentials and monitoring credentials for each pre-

existing PeopleSoft target monitored. Note: You can also setup the preferred credentials using using emcli utility. For example, emcli set_preferred_credential -set_name=HostCreds -target_name=peoplesoft.pia.<machinename>.ds1_home_psoft_ptbuilds_pt852 -target_type=ps_pia -credential_name=peoplesoft.pia. <machinename>..ds1_home_psoft_ptbuilds_pt852 emcli set_monitoring_credential -target_name=peoplesoft.pia. <machinename>.q.ds1_home_psoft_ptbuilds_pt852 -target_type=ps_pia -set_name=PsoftHostCreds -cred_type=PsoftHostCreds -attributes="HOST_USERNAME:psoft;HOST_PASSWORD:psoft" For more information, refer to Oracle Enterprise Manager Command Line Interface 12c.

3. Post configuration actions of EM 12c are initiated after the first discovery. If discovery is not triggered, you must manually create this folder structure to retain and monitor the Agent logs:

• USER_HOME/psft/pt/emplugin

• USER_HOME/psft/pt/emplugin/log

• Create two files psemagent.log and psemagent.trc

Note. The Agent logs on the host will not be created if you do not set this folder structure.

4. For PeopleSoft System instances migrated through upgrade to appear in EM 12c console, connect to EM Repository as sysman user and run this sync up command for each PeopleSoft System and then restart the OMS. The PeopleSoft Systems should then appear under System menu.

exec mgmt_system.sync_up_system('<PeopleSoft System Instance Name>','PS_SYSTEM');

For example, SQL> exec mgmt_system.sync_up_system(''QE852GA.pssystem.10488492-e9b3-11e0-a6ed-b5795cdb78eb'','PS_SYSTEM');

PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.

Checking the Status of PeopleSoft Plug-in Installation

After initiating the Plug-in deployment on OMS & Agent from EM console, you can run emctl or emcli command to determine the status of the deployment.

To check the status of the deployment after initiating the Plug-in on OMS:

• The emctl command is used when OMS goes down at the time of deploying the Plug-in on OMS. OMS_HOME/bin/emctl status oms –details

• When the OMS is up again you can use the below emcli command. OMS_HOME/bin/emcli get_plugin_deployment_status -plugin_id=oracle.apps.psft

Note. If OMS has rebooted, then you need to login to emcli utility before running any other emcli

command option.

OMS_HOME/bin/emcli login -username=sysman

• emcli utility need to be setup before using it for the first time. After installation of the EM 12c OMS, you can verify if emcli is setup with your OMS by using the below command, OMS_HOME/bin/emcli sync if emcli is not setup then you can setup by running the below command, For example, OMS_HOME/bin/emcli setup -url=https://slc00tev.us.oracle.com:7801/em -username=sysman

To check the status of the deployment after initiating the Plug-in on Agent:

You can check the Plug-in deployment on the Agent from the EM console itself. Alternately you can use emcli to check deployment status on Agent. OMS_HOME/bin/emcli get_plugin_deployment_status -plugin_id=oracle.apps.psft
