Youth will lead the march and speak at a 4:30 p.m. press conference. These organizers are working to draw attention to the devastation of massive water shutoffs that continue despite the so-called payment plan instituted by Mayor Mike Duggan. The march launches from the Allied Media Conference. With three quarters of Detroit’s children living below the poverty line, many young people have been sorely affected when their families struggle with water bills they can’t afford. The People’s Water Board Coalition, faith leaders and activists have been calling for income-based payment plans as laid out in the Water Affordability Plan . But the first and most humane step is an immediate and complete end to water shut offs.
