Daniel Boone grew up in Pennsylvania and North Carolina.
He married and later moved his family to Virginia.

Boone was only a halfhearted farmer.
He really liked being in the wilderness.
He joined an expedition that explored the swampy
interior of Florida.

In 1775, Boone helped negotiate a deal between a land company and the
Cherokee Indians.
The company got 20 million acres of land surrounded by the Ohio, Kentucky and Cumberland Rivers.
Settlers had no route into the new territory.

Daniel Boone and 30 other men bushwhacked, burned, and hacked out the Wilderness Road.
Wilderness Road •250-mile-long•over the Blue Ridge Mountains and through the Cumberland Gap
•near what is now the borders of Kentucky, Virginia, and Tennessee.

Boone and his family settled in what became Kentucky.
