In collaboration with the community, United Way strives to create lasting change in Miami County by strategically investing in the upward economic mobility of households.

22% of Miami County families are considered to be working poor. There’s no single or simple solution and that’s where we step in. United Way uses your investment to create lasting change through our distinct approach;

MEET ALICE.United Way of Miami County works to connect families in our community who are working hard but struggling to survive to social services. We are working every day to fight against the barriers facing ALICE families through our community impact approach.

BY GIVING TODAY YOU ARE OFFERING A HAND UP TO

NEARLY 1 IN 4 HOUSEHOLDS.

YOU ARE KEEPING THEM FROM FALLING THROUGH THE CRACKS.

A L I C E ASSET LIMITED INCOME CONSTRAINED EMPLOYED

UNITED, WE CAN FIND A WAY.Sierra is a single mother of three. Looking for family support, she made the tough decision to move her young family to Miami County after a recent divorce. She found part-time employment to keep the family afloat but earns less than $15,000 a year.

Sierra called United Way’s 2-1-1 Resource Center for help. With her children in tow, Sierra has been living on rotation with different family members.

Every week or two an aunt or cousin will grant her the ability to sleep on their couch for a bit. She is hopeful that she will find more stable housing for her family. Housing and Urban Development (HUD) can place her on a waiting list and she will be notified when housing is available. Unfortunately, that is a harsh reality for far too many people. 2-1-1 connects callers to available resources in the area, but the needs are greater than the ability to help more often than we would like.

Because 2-1-1 is committed to a holistic approach in working with callers, Sierra did share that she often feels like food scarcity is a problem for her family. To help put food on the table, she has applied for public food access and is waiting for the benefit to be processed. Charity Tracker Navigator was able to offer her the location of a food pantry close to her current location for immediate needs. Sierra is fortunate enough to have transportation and temporary health insurance for herself and the kiddos.

United Way of Miami County is fighting for families like Sierra’s every day.

Your gift allows us to bring people around the table to advance community solutions and change the

direction for our neighbors.

OUR DIVERSITY, EQUITY & INCLUSION STATEMENTWe cannot build a better future for Miami County unless we build it together.United Way has worked for decades to create an environment that welcomes all cultures and backgrounds.

We respect, value, and celebrate the unique attributes, characteristics, and perspectives that make each person who they are. We also believe that bringing diverse individuals together allows us to collectively and more effectively address the issues that face our communities. Diversity and inclusion are the heart of what it means to LIVE UNITED. For more information, visit United Way Worldwide.
