character. We remember a person¶s behavior or attitude and label that this person

has good personality .as part of my academic study I got a chance to analyze a

criteria.

PurposeMy personal intention and eagerness for doing this assignment is to make myself

understand the term personality, how personality affects behavior and what qualities

of Narayan Marty made him successful. In this report everything is concerned with

the personality, behavior, attitude, value system and also how he make Infosys

CRITICAL EVALUATION OF FITNESS BETWEEN THE MODLE AND

LEADER

Leaders are visi onaries with a poorly devel o ped sense of  f ear and no c oncept of  the

odds agai nst them. ±R .Jarvik

After analyzing the personality we came to know about that person¶s different aspect

as like his risk taking ability, leadership ability etc. We can say that a person can be

good entrepreneur if his key traits are risk taking, creativity, leadership, and

motivation etc. only after evaluating his personality (Chauvin, 2005).

Functional leadership is model that concentrates on how leadership occurs, rather

than focusing on who does the leading. It defines the types of behaviors that guide

an organization and then looks at how those behaviors occur. Under this model,

leadership is a distributed function. People at all levels can participate in guiding the

organization. One of the cornerstones of this leadership model is its focus on how

instead of who. (www.leadership501.com/ )

Personality is the figure overall of ways by which a human being respond and

intermingle with others (Robbins, 2009). A person¶s personality is completely

inspired by its surroundings and social environment which is given by person¶sparents, relatives and friends and his behavior is reflection of that environment. On

the other hand personality is also affected by person¶s emotional experiences

(B¨ockenholt, 2001).

Analysis of a personality can be done by two methods which are Myers-Briggs Type

Indicator (MBTI) and The Big Five Model. To describe an individual¶s qualities The

Big Five Model is proper (Luthans, 2005).

Trust or Lack of trust, is an increasingly important leadership issues in todays

organization .in this project we define trust and provide with some guide lines for

helping build credibility and trusts- (Stephen p .Robbins 2005)

ANALYSES AND JUSTIFICATION:-There are two models to analyze and justify an individual¶s personality. From them

The Big Five Personality Model is appropriate to describe Mr. Narayan Murthy¶s

personality so we will use this model (Robbins, 2009). According to this model

1. EXTRAVERSION ± Murthy is very friendly and socialite person (, 2000). He

always raises his voice for social issues in India as election, poverty, unemployment

etc. He is also a part of various education institutes of India as well as of foreign

countries Murthy created a model corporate structure, which was transparent and

laid emphasis on good governance. Last year Time Magazine voted him as one of the Asian heroes, along with Jawaharlal Nehru and Mahatma Gandhi, who have

brought about revolutionary changes in the last 60 years. Murthy describes himself

as a ³compassionate capitalist´ and Infosys¶s ESOP plan was born from that belief.

In time Infosys created 2,000 plus dollar millionaires and 20,000 plus rupee

millionaires. (Economic times. India times news paper Oct.27. 2007)

2. AGREEABLENESS ± Undoubtedly Murthy is a person who is good natured and

cooperative because he manages to make Infosys a successful company through

the proper understanding with other founders of Infosys (Murthy, 2009).

It¶s the tendency to be trusting, compliant, caring and gentle. Undoubtedly all the

qualities are present in Murthy. Trust is the foundation of leadership ,trust is a

positive expectation come through knowledge and familiarity about the other party

.It doesn¶t come through word ,action ,or decisions it an opportunistically . It takes

time to form, building incrementally and accumulating. Integrity is refers to honesty

and truthfulness. ³I have always believed that entrepreneurship is an instrument of

creating jobs, and is the best way to solve poverty of a country like India,´ Mr. Murthy

told media in an early morning conference call on Friday. (The Time of India, the

Economic Time 24.oct.2009)

3. OPENNESS TO EXPERIENCE.  Narayan Murthy is a person who is eager to

increase his knowledge as we can understand that in197

0s computer field was new

and not a secure one but he choose that because of his tendency to amplify the

understanding. (Murthy, 2009)

The final dimension address ones range of interest and fascination with novelty

extremely open people are creative, and curious and artistically sensitive.

Those other hands of the openness category are conventional and find comfort in

the familiar (Stephen p .Robbins 2005.part 2, pg.104)  Openness correlates with

divergent thinking (McCrae, 1987) and is strongly related to both personality-based

and behavioral measures of creativity (Feist, 1998; McCrae & Costa, 1997).

Creativity appears to be an important skill of effective leaders.  ''I am sure we will see

in the years to come... one of the members of the executive council become thechief executive officer. There is no doubt about that at all. ''But, whether it is going to

happen in the next two years, five years or seven years, that is not for me to

comment," Murthy noted (The Time of India, the Economic Time 04.sep.2010)

Conclusion

After analyzing Narayana Murthy¶s personality, values and attitude I came to know

that a person can became successful only if he has good personality, value and

attitude. Narayana Murthy is a person who took risk, did hard work, being patient for

results, and cooperative; these qualities of his personality made him successful.

Char ismatic Leadership

According to (Conger&Kanungo) charismatic leadership theory, followers make

attribution of heroic or extraordinary leadership abilities when they observe certain

behaviors. They have a vision are willing to take risk to achieve the vision are

sensitive to both environment constraints and follower needs. As murthy personally

took a risk to run an Infosys and willing to take on high personal risk incur high cost

and engaged in self sacrifices to achieve the vision to make Infosys successful

today. But as Musser, S.J. (1987) he said in his article The Charismatic Leader

gathers followers through dint of personality and charm, rather than any form of

external power or authority. And both the author was discussion on one point is

VISION  of the T he values charismatic leader one his vision made for long term that

the vision are willing to take risk to achieve the vision are sensitive to both

environment constraints and follower needs to fellow his entire life. Ones his vision

made than leader make people to work on by only his trust .through his

agreeableness follower  trust him as a leader. Trust is the foundation of leadership

they may engender trust through visible self-sacrifice and taking personal risks in thename of their beliefs. They will show great confidence in their followers. They pay

much attention to the person they are talking to at any one moment, making that

person feel like they are, for that time, the most important person in the world. Of

the Charismatic Leader are highly significant. If they are well-intentioned towards

others, they can elevate and transform an entire company. It seems to be one of the

most critical when someone assesses another¶s trustworthiness attributes to relate

to leadership, honesty was rated the most important by far. (Stephen p .Robbins

2005.part 3 pg365) That altruism, tact and sensitivity are hallmarks of an agreeable

personality would suggest that leaders should be more agreeable. On the other

hand, agreeable individuals are likely to be modest (Goldberg, 1990), and leaderstend not to be excessively modest (Bass, 1990, pg. 70). This article provides a

qualitative review of the trait perspective in leadership research. (Timothy, Remus,

Joyce & Megan)

Conclusion

A Charismatic Leader, Vision, Values shape that person¶s behavior and attitude of his.

We know that the attitude of Mr. Murthy was decent so his values should be also high.

Narayana Murthy was a hard worker, honest, socially aware, visionary, loyalty to

organization kind of person who believes in his growth in company¶s growth through his

vision and full trust to word is work

Par ticipative style of leadership Participative leadership theories suggest that the ideal leadership style is one that

takes the input of others into account. N.Murthy is leader who in encourage

participation and contributions from group members and help group members feel

more relevant and committed to the decision-making process. In participative

theories, however, the leader retains the right to allow the input of others. ( kinder

cherry psychology guide)    A Participative Leader, rather than taking autocratic

decisions, seeks to involve other people in the process, possibly including

subordinates, peers, superiors and other stakeholders. Self  monitor ing is an in

individuals ability to adjust his behaviors to external, situational factors. High self-

monitors are capable of presenting striking contradiction between their public

persona and their private self. Self esteem  is offers some interesting insights into

organization behavior. Self esteem is directly related to expectation for success .high

SEs believe that they possess the ability they need to successes at work. (Stephen

p .Robbins 2005.part2, pg. 107) additionally, state extraversion was found to

mediate the relationship between approach goals and states positive affect

(heller,komar& lee,2007)

Conclusion

Analyzing a personality can be a very interesting as well as very challenging job at

the same time. To analyze personality a person should not have any perception or anticipation and he should study proper about that person¶s personal and corporate

life to find out different aspect of that person.

leadership can be observed right across organizational structures. These µsoft¶ skills

have been identified as important contributors to workplace these µsoft¶ skills have been

identified as important contributors to workplace efficiency for both leaders andemployees as market Leadership in the 21st Century. Focusing on post industrial

organizational realities, leadership and knowledge management, and leadership and
